Quaddie tips for Thursday, February 9 races at Pakenham

quaddie tips
THE weekly Thursday Pakenham race meeting is back in full swing for the New Year and we are anticipating a sensational evening of thoroughbred action on the outskirts of Melbourne.

There are class runners everywhere you look across the card, but we are focusing on the final four races of the day, and as always we believe we have cracked the quaddie formula to generate a quality return for the loyal HorseBetting.com.au readers this week.

Race five on the card at Pakenham is the TLA & Puma benchmark 78, which kicks off the quaddie at 8pm.

Race 5 – TLA & Puma BM78 (1600m)

First leg of the Pakenham quaddie has eight runners in a benchmark 78 and we are backing two runners to fight out the finish.

Red Alto is in sparkling form this preparation. Since returning on December 8 the four-year-old broke the maiden then won in benchmark 70 company just two races later. The High Chaparral product gets a 2kg weight relief from that last win and should be in the finish.

The Terricks is third up on Thursday, which bodes well for the gelding given it has won at this stage in a previous preparation. Last time out at Pakenham the six-year-old went down by less than half a length as a $31 shot. The gelding has a great record at both the track and across the distance and will be in the finish.

Race 6 – Aligned Leisure BM64 (1200m)

A field of 11 confronts punters in the second leg of the multi and we are backing three runners to be in the mix come the post.

Big Buddie had a poor outing last time out but the eight-year-old drops back to its preferred trip on Thursday where it has won six times and placed a further six. Last time out at the 1200m it won convincingly so we are expecting an improved run.

Jye McNeil takes the ride on Curvano, which is looking to maintain a great run of form. Across its last four runs the gelding has not finished outside the first four and has finished outside the quinella placings just once. Curvano has also never finished outside the top-two across its career at Pakenham.

There is no reason to believe that great form will not continue.

Venator is looking to back up its impressive class one victory last time out at Benalla on Thursday. The win was over the same distance the four-year-old will confront here. The only slight query is the 1kg penalty having never previously carried 60kg but the gelding should be in the frame.

Race 7 – Cedex Steel & Metals Handicap Class 1 (1400m)

A big field of thirteen will compete the third leg of our multi but there are several stand outs in the market to our eye.

With Attitude is looking to extend its run of form to six straight races in the placings. Thursday will be the four-year-old’s first attempt at 1400m but the Walking or Dancing progeny gets a huge 11kg relief. It all points towards another quality run.

Myki is having its second run in Australia after a five race career in New Zealand which saw the five-year-old never finish outside of the first four. We are willing to forgive the first-up failure last time out as Kiwi gallopers rarely cross the Tasman and win straight away.

Yvonne Harvey-trained mare Bush Flight is looking to get back to winning form after a lacklustre debut in benchmark company. The four-year-old broke its maiden impressively at the start of the year at Cranbourne and any emulation of that run will see it in the finish.

Race 8 – Plenary Group BM64 (1600m)

The final leg of the quaddie is the toughest race of the day to predict but we are certain there is three elects that will be battling it out in front of the judge.

Menegatti first attempt at the 1600m journey did not turn out as planned last week. The five-year-old failed to make an impression and finished 6th of 11 runners. We are willing to forgive the outing however, given the mare has placed and won across both shorter and greater distances.

Weir-trained mare Comic Miss is looking to go back-to-back after a strong win at Warrnambool three weeks ago. The race will be the five-year-old’s third attempt at the distance where it has previously placed before. This race looks within its reach.

Bolshoi Belle is an interesting runner that can run well at odds on Thursday.

Last time out it ran on well from the back of the 14 horse field to finish 8th, and before that won comfortably over the 1600m distance as a short priced favourite. The horse carries 9kg less than it did in that win and should be in the frame.
