Quaddie tips for Thursday, Australia Day races at Caulfield

quaddie tips
AN exciting Australia Day race card awaits HorseBetting.com.au quaddie enthusiasts on Thursday and we’re super excited to enjoy some city-grade racing on our national day.

Two feature events amongst a number of benchmark races greet punters at Caulfield across the eight-race day, which means the quality of racing will be top notch on Thursday.

Race five on the card at Caulfield is the Swettenham Stud Championship Final, which kicks off the quaddie at 4pm.

Race 5 – Swettenham Stud Championship Final (1700m)

One of the feature races of the day kicks off the quaddie and we are backing a pair of Darren Weir runners to battle it out in the small field of eight.

Lucky Paddy has finished inside the first four across its last four runs. The five-year-old won back on December 27 over the same distance and looks to be one of the main threats on Thursday.

The other Weir runner in the race is Refulgent.

The six-year-old Hard Spun product was not disgraced last time out at Moonee Valley over the 1500m journey back on Saturday. The horse steps back up to a journey where it has won once and placed once over four starts and looks well placed here.

Race 6 – Moorookyle Park Thoroughbred BM70 (1600m)

A field of nine confronts punters in the second leg of the Australia Day multi and three horses look to be the main elects in market.

Three-year-old filly Parallel World has been incredibly impressive since debuting late in 2016. Across two starts the Shocking progeny has a second and a first to its name. Each race its distance was increased by 200m so the 1600m should not be an issue on Thursday.

Alma’s Rossa finished off a monster $1,700 quaddie for us at the beginning of December and has continued that great form thereafter, finishing second and fourth in subsequent runs. The three-year-old filly raced last time out at Caulfield for its second placing and can go one better on Thursday.

Hard Promise is a prodigiously talented three-year-old who has the racing world at its feet. The colt has never finished outside the quinella placings in its three races to date and hammered the field last time out as a $1.73 favourite. It would not surprise us to see it progress through the grades starting Thursday.

Race 7 – John Dillion Stakes (1400m)

The second big race of the day is the seventh race on the card and a terrific field of group type runners will compete in the third leg of the quaddie.

Grande Rosso has been in sparkling form. Since the beginning of December the gelding has won twice and finished second across three starts. The five-year-old has one half of its eight starts at the distance.

Real Love is a horse that has impressed us in the past. The former Western Australian champion was disappointing last time out at Flemington, but that was almost three months ago. The mare resumes on Thursday and Weir should have it fit and ready to go.

Duke Of Brunswick was disappointing upon resumption on Boxing Day at Caulfield, finishing fourth in a race it really should have won. Races second up today where the five-year-old has never finished outside the quinella places across five runs.

Race 8 – MyPunter.com BM78 (1200m)

There are a few familiar faces in the final leg of our quaddie, one in particular will warm the hearts of the HorseBetting.com.au faithful.

Roman Fizz is a runner that we identified back on Boxing Day as a good thing when it saluted to return $13. The five-year-old probably will not go around at such a high price on Thursday given its credentials look sound here.

Weir runner Stellar Collision will be looking for a much better showing after three straight sixth placed finishes. The four-year-old has won two of five runs at the Thursday distance and is capable of returning to form in this race.

Rich Charm is third up today and is looking to continue its undefeated stretch when running for the third time in a preparation. The four-year-old is one of the only horses in the field which has consistently raced in the city over the last year and looks well placed to be in the finish in the final leg of our quaddie.
