QRIC’s Racing Science Centre upgrades for the future
The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission’s (QRIC) Racing Science Centre (RSC) Laboratory has undergone a major refurbishment to modernise infrastructure and facilitate future growth.
Earlier in the year, a range of high-tech analytical chemistry instruments was donated to Queensland universities to help train the next generation of racing scientists, and to make way for the acquisition of the latest equipment to test for a growing range of prohibited substances regulated under the national rules of racing across racing codes.
The Queensland Government approved funding commencing in 2017-2018 to replace aging infrastructure, build analytical capability and enable Queensland to respond effectively to current and emerging drug threats across all racing codes.

The next stage of the Racing Science Centre upgrade has just been completed, with the improvement of three testing instrumentation rooms.
Ross Barnett, Racing Integrity Commissioner said the upgrades and new instrumentation would improve the working environment for the scientists of the RSC and position the Racing Science Centre for future growth and the progressive implementation of a series of significant testing enhancements over the next couple of years.
“The Racing Science Centre is now an even more efficient and capable facility” he said.
Some delays to testing results and prizemoney payments can be expected due to the construction program in the instrumentation rooms, but these will be addressed quickly with the resumption of full operations at the Racing Science Centre last week.
