Punt Drunk: Russian Camelot steps up prep for All Star Mile

Punt Drunk racing news & tips

Punt Drunk racing news – February 9, 2021

G’day, punters, and welcome to your daily dose of #PuntDrunk.

How bloody good is it that on a Tuesday we have five gallops meetings to get through? With a bit of luck, the team here at HorseBetting.com.au can steer you into a couple of winners throughout the day.

We should see fields released for some of the big races on the weekend, including the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes at Flemington. As many of you are aware, we are bloody keen on Bivouac in the Group 1, so much so the missus has been warned we could be on two-minute noodles for the next month!

All Star Mile voting closes Sunday

Time is running out for racing fans to have their say on who should feature in this year’s All Star Mile, as voting closes at midnight on Sunday, February 14. South Australia has gotten behind its star sprinter Behemoth in the past 24 hours, and the David Jolly-trained gelding is now top of the leaderboard ahead of Arcadia Queen. In the top 10 we have the likes Probabeel, Verry Elleegant, The Harrovian, Russian Camelot, and Greysful Glamour, who has more votes than Mr Quickie and Mugatoo combined. With voting set to close on Sunday, it is safe to say the grey is going to be competing amongst some of the top names in racing. Imagine the scenes if the Glamour salutes!

Speaking of the Russian…

He’s back! After a spring that was built up to be more successful than Winx’s career, Russian Camelot is set to step out under the public eye for the first time since the Melbourne Cup at an 1100m trial at Werribee this morning. Now, following Sir Dragonet’s incredible trial and then his abject failure, it’s safe to say the hype will not be as high this time around (well, we assume so anyway). The Underwood Stakes winner from the spring will step out alongside Mr Quickie on Tuesday morning as both build up their preparations towards the All Star Mile. Russian Camelot looks set to go to the March 13 event first up from a spell, and considering he has won first up in the past, there is no reason punters should not be confident. Online bookmakers are paying up to $6.50 for the Danny O’Brien-trained galloper to win the Moonee Valley feature sprint, as he shares the top line of All Star Mile betting with Arcadia Queen and Behemoth.
