Punt Drunk: Prince Of Arran… Next Stop Melbourne Cup!

Prince of Arran

Punt Drunk Daily – 22/3/21

Today we were supposed to be on a two day hangover from the Golden Slipper on Saturday. However, as we know the meeting got postponed and pushed back a week, so guess what punters? We build up and get up for another week of leading up the Golden Slipper and four other Group 1 races at Rosehill, what a time to be alive! It is a Monday, so we will keep it short and sweet for this morning

Back from nowhere!

A Prince of Arran Melbourne Cup 2018

The absolute scenes out of the United Kingdom over the weekend. Remember about a month ago we brought to you the idea that Prince Of Arran might have run his last race on the back of below par performances in Dubai earlier in the year. Fast forward it to the middle of March and trainer Charlie Fellowes is confident that Prince Of Arran will be back here in Australia for his fourth run in the 2021 Melbourne Cup. We do love a good story, let alone a comeback story, so we will be all over him if Prince Of Arran does run in this year’s Melbourne Cup. Odds of $18 are available for the old boy to take out the cup!

The Wizard Of The East?

William Pike certainly has silenced any doubters the “experts” may have had regarding his performances outside of Perth. Prior to the last nine months in Melbourne, Pikey had struggled to be as effective as what he is back home. However, he has now won a couple of Group 1’s on the East Coast including the William Reid Stakes on Friday night at The Valley. Pikey then headed down to Mornington on Saturday where he rode four winners on the card, including the first three legs of the quaddie before getting done in the shadows of the winning post when finishing second on Imperial Lad in the last. Pikey will now be back in Perth for a couple of weeks with a few big races coming up in April, but expect him to be back over in the east for a few rides over the coming months
