Punt Drunk: Classique Legend falters in first HK trial
Happy Friday Eve, punters! There’s four local gallops meetings for punters to sink their teeth into today, and the Kingston Town Classic and Pakenham Cup meetings are only two days away. We returned to the winner’s circle yesterday with our best bet saluting in the opener at Sandown, and we’ll look to continue that today.

With the Hong Kong Sprint just over a week away, the recent trial of The Everest winner Classique Legend at Sha Tin may have some all-in punters a little nervous in the lead up. New trainer Casper Fownes said the dominant last-start winner looked to be a little bit rusty, and he sounded concerned that the horse lacked the finishing touch over the last furlong. He is a $1.80 favourite for the feature sprint and looks the classiest horse in the field, but this news might have some punters exploring the market just in case.

For just the second time, Nash Rawiller will battle it out against his son, Campbell Rawiller, under race conditions on Saturday at Pakenham. It has only occurred on one other occasion: the opening race on Bendigo Cup Day in 2019, when father got the better of son. They both have rides in Race 2 at Pakenham, but both are on $61 shots that are unlikely to figure in the finish. Nevertheless, we’re sure Campbell will try his absolute hardest to upstage his old man. And if that happens, we can expect Nash to retire immediately – because life is over once your kids start beating you at any sport, let alone the one you do for a crust.

Mystic Journey (aka ‘Betty’) has joined the likes of Behemoth and The Harrovian in entering calculations for the All Star Mile at Moonee Valley in March. The winner of the 2019 All Star was the first nomination accepted yesterday, and considering she’s one of the most popular gallopers going around and the pride of Tasmania, she’s all but assured of a start. Go get ’em, Betty!
