Punt Drunk : Another Saturday in Sydney, another leader’s track

Sir Dragonet

Punt Drunk Daily – 4/4/21

Good Morning punters and Happy Easter, hopefully it was a successful day on the punt for you yesterday and you are celebrating with a shitload of chocolate eggs this morning. What a day of racing we saw right around the country, we saw Sir Dragonet back to his best in the Tancred, and Hungry Heart showed she is no longer a tease when securing the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes. Throw in an awesome day out at Oakbank (if that is not on your bucket list, you are doing something wrong) and some handy results at Caulfield too, it was all round a half decent day on the punt.

Another Saturday in Sydney, another leader biased track.

Let’s be honest the races at Rosehill yesterday might as well have had an early speed graphic on Sky Racing, much the same as what appears before a greyhound race. Because if you were the leader, or you had barrier one you were pissing yourself laughing most of the day. The winners in each race outside of Hungry Heart came from: Barrier 1, Leader, Leader, Barrier 1, Barrier 1, Leader and you guessed it Starspangled Rodeo won in an all the way victory. We have seen this before, because this time last year it felt like this was happening each week in Sydney. With The Championships kicking off next week, let’s hope the track at Royal Randwick plays as fair as we could possibly hope for.

The Dragon Is Back!

He won the Cox Plate during the spring, and Sir Dragonet brought up his first win since that day in an absolutely dominant display in the Tancred Stakes. Having long been known as a wet track specialist, his win yesterday came on a Good 4 so that quickly squashed any claim that he cannot handle firmer going. The win in the Tancred now sets up a potential clash with Addeybb and Verry Elleegant in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, and who is to say he can not give that race a real shake in a fortnight’s time at Randwick. Three out and out stars, head to head to head, boy oh boy are we pumped!

Sunday Racing Tips – April 4, 2021

Punt Drunk’s best bet of the day

With limited racing being held around the country, we head west to the Listed Old Comrade Stakes where the Daniel & Ben Pearce-trained Dig Deep looks hard to beat. Having won impressively in the Listed Grandstand Cup over the 1500m here at Ascot on March 20 he looks well placed to bring up consecutive victories for the second time this campaign. From barrier one we expect Clint Johnston-Porter to box seat Dig Deep and when the opportunity presents itself hopefully he can charge through an opening and be too strong late.
