A field of 14 runners will do battle over 2500m in the 2021 Listed Port Adelaide Cup at Morphettville this Saturday. The favourite for this year’s edition is the Tony McEvoy-trained Silent Sovereign, who is coming off a last-start second at Caulfield. Exalted Fire and Lostarc are expected to duke it out in the early stages for the lead, while Wycliff and Sostenido are tipped to settle towards the rear of the field. HorseBetting.com.au brings you the best bets, top odds and betting strategy for the $107,250 feature.

Port Adelaide Cup betting preview

Symon Wilde takes Aurora’s Symphony across to Morphettville on Saturday following a disappointing seventh in the Terang Cup on April 18. The Glass Harmonium gelding was taken to the front of the field from the gates and found the going tough when the speed went on. Prior to that effort he had strung together three straight wins when taking a sit and rounding his rivals up in one fell swoop. From barrier 13 on Saturday he will need a bit of luck early on in the piece, but if he is afforded that, then Damien Oliver will make sure he is presented at the right time.

Silent Sovereign has been impressive despite winning only one of his five races this campaign. The Tony McEvoy-trained son of Dalakhani looked to have the race in his keeping when approaching the home turn at Caulfield on April 10, but he found one better over the final 50m and had to settle for second. With three weeks between runs and William Pike in the saddle, we expect the favourite to settle midfield in the running before making a move around the 600m mark.

The Matt Cumani-trained Converging is another who comes through the Terang Cup, where he actually beat home our top selection. The issue with this one is he struggles to find the winning post on firmer ground, but it is hard to knock his last start leading into the Port Adelaide Cup.
