Pinjarra racing tips and best bets for 20/2/2022

What Pinjarra Classic Race Day
Where Pinjarra Park – Racecourse Rd, Pinjarra WA 6208
When Saturday, February 26, 2023
First Race 1:30pm AWST

Pinjarra Park will host a very competitive nice-race program on its annual Pinjarra Classic Race Day, highlighted by the Listed $150,000 feature. The track is currently rated a Good 4, and with warm weather and no rain forecast for the area on Saturday and Sunday, we should be racing on a perfect surface. The rail will go out to the +2m position for the entire circuit, after they raced in the true position last weekend. The first race will jump at 1:30pm AWST.

Best Bet at Pinjarra: La Dette

We will have to wait until the last race of the day for our best bet, where the Adam Durrant-trained La Dette will go around in the Class One Handicap over 1200m. This three-year-old filly has only had the five race starts so far for her career with four of them coming this time in over 1000m, 1200m and 1300m. This daughter of Playing God was quite unlucky last start at Belmont over 1300m on February 8, as she got stuck in behind horses on the home turn and lost her momentum when changing tracks to make a run up the inside. The three horses that finished in front of her ran down the outside and never had to stop and change tracks, which ultimately saw them go past this filly who made good ground late to only go down by 1.6 lengths. Clint Johnston-Porter will stick on Sunday after his last start fourth on this girl, and from barrier six we should see him push forward to sit outside the leader or settle in the one-one behind the leaders. This filly’s only win came at the 1200m, so with her dropping back in distance to the six furlongs, we should see her at her very best.

Next Best Bet at Pinjarra: Celebrity Icon

The third race of the day will see the Luke Fernie-trained Celebrity Icon go around in the three-year-old maiden over 1300m, coming through the WA Magic Millions 3YO Trophy last start where she finished fifth beaten by four lengths. This filly will be one of the more experienced runners in this field, having the eight race starts, but if you consider her two seconds before running fifth in that WA Magic Millions race, it is hard to ignore her form. With this daughter of Astern dropping back to Maiden grade and rising in distance to 1300m, this race should set up perfectly for this luckless filly to finally break through at her ninth race start. Chris Parnham will jump back aboard this girl on Sunday for his second ride on her after riding her first-up this campaign, and if he can settle her off the rail in the mid-field, she will get every chance to make a run around the home turn and look the winner at some point down the home straight.

Next Best Bet

Race 3 – silks#6 Celebrity Icon (5)

3yo Filly | T: Luke Fernie | J: Chris Parnham (55kg)

$2.20 with Neds
