What Pinjarra Cup Day
Where Pinjarra Park – Racecourse Rd, Pinjarra WA 6208
When Sunday, April 2, 2023
First Race 1:40pm AWST

The Pinjarra Race Club will hold its annual Cup meeting this Sunday afternoon, with the highlight event being the $150,000 Listed Pinjarra Cup over 2300m. The track is currently rated a Good 4, and with no rain expected on Saturday or Sunday, we anticipate racing on a perfect surface for the duration of the program. The rail will be in the true position for the entire circuit, with racing set to get underway at 12:26pm AWST.

Pinjarra Cup Tip: Neufbosc

The Listed Pinjarra Cup over 2300m for stayers will be the main event of the day, with seven of the nine runners meeting again after clashing in the Listed Autumn Cup last Sunday. Casino Seventeen won the Autumn Cup by more than five lengths, and he will gain 3kg for that victory, so at $1.50 with most online betting sites, we are happy to play around the favourite. Neufbosc, trained by Neville Parnham, returned to form by finishing third behind Casino Seventeen and No Apology. This eight-year-old gelding hasn’t won in a while, but with the top three horses in the market rising sharply in the weights, this son of Mastercraftsman finds himself right in the mix. This gelding looks perfectly placed to finally break through for his first win since winning the Perth Cup in 2021 now that he is fourth-up for this preparation and rises to 2300m. Brad Parnham has ridden Neufbosc in six of his last seven starts, and he should get the run of the race from barrier two, and at $15 with online bookmakers, we’re happy to play.

Best Bet at Pinjarra: Manhattan Strip

Our best bet for the day at Pinjarra will be the Daniel & Ben Pearce-trained Manhattan Strip, who finished second to Yonga Lass last time out over 1400m at Pinjarra Scarpside on March 23. This three-year-old gelding has finished second in his last two starts, with his most recent outing seeing him be beaten by the tiniest of margins, where he appeared to have his race in his keeping at the 100m mark, before the eventual winner flew down the outside to nab him in the final bound. Last time out, this son of Manhattan Rain finished three lengths behind Santorio and Saloon Bar, both proven Saturday metropolitan race performers. Now that he is third-up, we expect Chris Parnham to settle in the first four, then peel off the leader’s heels and kick clear with 200m to go. If Manhattan Rain doesn’t have to do too much work early and gets even luck, he will be winning.

Next Best Bet at Pinjarra: Vast Art

Vast Art looks to be a very nice bet when he steps up to a Class 5 Handicap and stays at 1600m after winning last start at Pinjarra Scarpside on March 23 over 1600m. This three-year-old gelding will rise slightly in weight to 58.5kg, but given that he won by 2.5 lengths in his most recent start, the weight should not be an issue. This son of Flying Artie thoroughly enjoyed sitting in behind the speed last start after leading and sitting outside the leader when second and third-up this preparation, as he recorded his second career win, both coming from off the speed. Chris Parnham will stick with this gelding on Sunday, and he will have his work cut out for him to slot in just behind the leaders from barrier six, but if he can find the one-one or three-wide running line, Vast Art should prove very difficult to hold out.
