Thom Brown finished a quality second on debut and it should take plenty of improvement from that run.

2016/2017 jockeys’ premiership winner Chris Johnson is in the saddle and we’re expecting there to be plenty of tote support for the son of Jimmy Choux.

Miacoca turned around some pretty poor form this season to run second last start.

The four-year-old by Iffraaj has placed in four starts from 11 attempts and its run at Riccarton behind Richie Rich is a good form guide.

Race 3 – BM75 Handicap (1200m)

Barabas was taking on the harder opposition earlier this campaign and this is a step down in class.

Trained by the Pitman’s, the four-year-old has won only two of 16 starts, but his form behind Starvoia and Carnival has open class sprinting attributes.

That looks the best form guides for this.

Race 4 – BM65 Handicap (1200m)

Greenpark Gem hasn’t quite followed up its debut win with much, but the talent is there and this field doesn’t run deep.

The filly by Highly Recommended scored narrowly at Riccarton in September before running two solid races. The Group 3 grade was too much for it last start behind Prom Queen and this is significantly easier.

Race 5 – BM65 Handicap (1600m)

Show Lover is a former Stephen McKee-trained runner which has made its home down south.

Now with Andrew Carston, the five-year-old doesn’t like to win often, but she has been close to the winners of late and it will only need a touch of luck to figure in the finish.

Race 6 – Maiden Plate (1600m)

Red River Rock had plenty of supporters last start, but the jockey left the run far too late.

Punters will be happy to get back on board the talented type, which has form behind the likes of Savvy Coup and Nesta.

Race 7 – Timaru Cup (1600m)

Son of Maher is an enigmatic type which looks great one day and then looks average the next.

It produced two quality wins earlier this season before running seventh last start, but this looks right up its alley and Chris Johnson rides at a luxury weight of 56.5kg.

Race 7 tip: Son of Maher to win at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 8 – BM75 Handicap (2100m)

Pendleton is a consistent runner which always gives punters a good sight.

The four-year-old by Rip Van Winkle has won and placed twice from seven starts and that record could improve with a good performance on Thursday.

Race 8 tip: Pendleton to win at Sportsbet.com.au
