Pennino too sharp for 2YO Classic rivals

Pennino
Pennino confirmed winter carnival plans with a display of sustained speed at the Sunshine Coast.

Flying filly Pennino landed the biggest pay day of her career but will head straight to the spelling paddock after winning at the Sunshine Coast.

Pennino ($4.20) went straight to the lead and ran the field into the ground before defeating the favourite Sizzling Ace ($2.25) by a length in the in the $125,000 Caloundra 2YO (1200m).

The race carries a series of bonus payments which meant Pennino picked up $115,000.

Trainer Darryl Hansen said Pennino had kept getting better with racing and had lived up to his high expectations.

“She was unlucky when second at her first start here and then won a maiden here two weeks ago in good style,” Hansen said.

“She is a little beauty and we wanted to make them chase her today. She will go for a spell now and then come back for the winter.”

“There will be plenty of races for her in the winter. Why wouldn’t we head that way.”

Pennino is a sister to Hansen’s handy galloper Balboa Rocks being by unde-rated sire Easy Rocking out of Alpha Girl.

Sizzling Ace ran on strongly from last to be taking ground off the winner.
