TRAINER Mick Sell is set to take a “wait and see” approach after his four-year-old Madam Stryker made it two wins from three starts in the Julie Milson Memorial at Wangaratta.

In a race that was hard to predict even until the latter stages, Jamie Mott took the mare to the front of the field entering the straight and the horse duly delivered, sustaining a big run to record a comfortable win and deliver $4.40 via Sportsbet.com.au.

Race favourite Dakota, which was taken to the head of affairs shortly after the jump, was unable to make the late ground required for victory, while a late gap ensured Al Gerard ($2.20 at WilliamHill.com.au) was able to round out the placings after finding itself towards the end of the field for the majority of the trip.

Trainer Mick Sell praised Jamie Mott’s performance, his second win for the day, following the strong victory.

“Very happy with that,” Sell told HorseBetting.com.au at the track.

“Through the race they went very slow and it was just good that Jamie obviously found that out when he decided to take up the lead.

“That was probably the winning move.”

The interesting race move was race favourite Dakota’s post-jump move of taking a position at the head of affairs, but Sell said he was not worried that the decision would be a decisive one.

“Not at all,” Sell said when asked if that move concerned him as the horses passed the post for the first time.

“It probably meant we got back a bit further than we wanted, but mid-race he made the right move and that made all the difference in the end.”

The win moved Madam Stryker’s record to three wins from 24 attempts.

Although two of the horse’s wins have now come over the 2000m distance, Sell said a jump in journey could be on the cards for the mare.

“I’m going to try and get her over further,” the trainer explained.

“I’m hoping to get her over 2500m maybe, and we’ll just see how she handles that.”

Despite the expected step-up in trip, Sell has no other set plans for the in-form galloper.

“There’s no plans as of yet, we’ll just take it as it comes.

“We’ll keep her in her class and take it day-by-day.”
