First Race 1pm AEST

Pakenham Racecourse is scheduled to host a bumper nine-part card on Tuesday afternoon following the cancellation of the Bairnsdale meeting due to heavy rain. Horsebetting’s Victorian betting expert presents his best bets, top odds and free quaddie selections. A perfect day for racing is forecast, for the meeting commencing at 1pm AEST.

Pakenham Best Bet: Arriva Diva

Fresh off a six-month spell, the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Arriva Diva looks a clear best bet on the Pakenham card. The five-year-old Curlin mare was sent around as a well-backed favourite at Morphettville back on March 6 and with her first up run being back in a midweek BM58, she should be too good for this field. 4kg claiming apprentice Heidi Gillie takes the steer and he will go around with 60kg on his back which will only benefit her chances. Her natural front running ability should see her overcome the tricky barrier draw from out in barrier 12. With speed drawn underneath her she should get a cart across the front of the field to sit outside the leader. Despite the long spell, we anticipate a touch of class to be the difference for Arriva Diva in the opening leg of the quaddie.

Best BetRace 6 – Arriva Diva (#1) $2.40 with Ladbrokes

Next Best at Pakenham: Mr Mischief

In the third leg of the quaddie, Paul Jones brings his six-year-old Good Journey gelding Mr Mischief back to the Pakenham Synthetic, pushing to make it three wins in succession. Mr Mischief managed to destroy his rivals by 4.5 lengths on the Ballarat Synthetic on August 24 where he managed to circle the field and then kicked clear late to absolutely bolt in. He does need to lug 64.5kg on Tuesday but with race fitness, a genuine staying ability and a formidable synthetic track record (4:2-2-0) he should prove too good for this lot. Notably, Jarrod Fry hops on board, after pairing with one of his rivals On Board to a maiden victory on August 27 and if Mr Mischief at 64.5kg is good enough for the in-form Fry, he is good enough for us!

Next BestRace 8 – Mr Mischief (#1) $2.70 with Sportsbet

Best Value at Pakenham: Sublime Diva

In the final race of the day, the Colin Little and Matthew Lindsay-trained Sublime Diva returns from a three-month spell and looks the one to be with in the “get out”. The daughter of Makybe Diva is bred to handle the 1600m on Tuesday and has a win to her runner up performance already on the synthetic surface. Look for Patrick Moloney to have her settled in the first four upon settling and on a day where it may be advantageous to be up on speed, especially late in the day we expect her natural staying ability to be the difference over 1600m.

Best ValueRace 9 – Sublime Diva (#6) $5.50 with Sportsbet
