First Race 1pm AEST

Pakenham Racecourse is scheduled to host an eight-part card on Friday afternoon, and Horsebetting’s Victorian betting expert presents his best bets and free quaddie selections for what is the club’s penultimate meeting of the synthetic season. A perfect day for racing is forecast, with the action set to commence at 1pm AEST.

Pakenham Best Bet: Taramansour

Having won on the Ballarat synthetic last time out, Taramansour comes to Pakenham looking to string together consecutive wins for the first time in his career. The win on August 10 was much more impressive on the eye than the one-length margin would appear to suggest. He has form behind the impressive Hosier three starts back and has a clear liking for the synthetic surface, so the son of Dansili looks a clear best bet on the program. In the small field of seven, he should not be too far from the speed, and considering he possesses the best turn of foot in the field, he should prove too hard to hold out in the opening leg of the quaddie.

Best BetRace 5 – Taramansour (#4) $1.90 with Ladbrokes

Next Best at Pakenham: On Board

The Shay Keating-trained On Board may never get a better chance to break his maiden then when he steps out in the opening event on Friday. Having finished in the minor money in each of his three previous runs, the five-year-old gelding comes to Pakenham with the best form in the race and will appreciate every bit of the 2200m. He stays all day and, despite being a 27-start maiden, should simply be too hard to beat here. The son of Dane Shadow has shown a liking for the synthetic surface with four minor placings from six starts, and with in-form jockey Jarrod Fry on board he should finally break through.

Next BestRace 1 – On Board (#3) $3.80 with Sportsbet

Best Value at Pakenham: True Mettle

In the final race of the day, the Dean Grass-trained True Mettle will look to bounce back from a poor effort in a high-weight race at Coleraine on August 15. With three minor placings to his name from four goes on the synthetic surface, he has a clear affiliation with the plastic and looks well placed to break through for a win on Friday. Apprentice Celine Gaudray hops on board and will claim 1.5kg, getting the four-year-old gelding in with just 54.5kg on his back. Look for the son of Pride Of Dubai to settle in the second half of the field and finish over the top of his rivals in the final leg of the quaddie.

Best ValueRace 8 – True Mettle (#6) $14 with Sportsbet
