HorseBetting’s Victorian racing analyst presents his best bets and quaddie selections for the eight-race meeting on Pakenham’s synthetic track this Tuesday. Perfect conditions are forecast for the meeting, so there should be no excuses for fancied runners. Racing is set to get underway at 12:25pm AEST.

Best Bet at Pakenham – Bonjour Blue

The first horse you see in the racebook is the Phillip Stokes-trained Bonjour Blue, and we think he is the best bet of the day on Tuesday. The three-year-old gelding has been knocking the door down for a maiden victory, having finished second at both of his last two starts. He did burn favourite punters at Strathalbyn on June 1 when going down by under a half-length as a $1.26 favourite on a Heavy 8. Despite this being his first go on the synthetic, we think the move back to a firm surface makes him the one to beat. From barrier six, look for Vlad Duric to have the Snitzel gelding settled outside the race leader. With race fitness on his side and decent enough form, it is hard to see Bonjour Blue getting beaten.

Best Bet

Race 1 – Silk #1 Bonjour Blue (6)

3yo Gelding | T: Phillip Stokes | J: Vlad Duric (59.5kg)

$3.80 with Ladbrokes

Next Best at Pakenham – Montenegro

We will be looking to bookend the program as the Gareth Andrews-trained Montenegro shoots for a third successive win on the Pakenham synthetic. The three-year-old gelding managed to put his rivals away with disdain when breaking his maiden two starts back, before coming out and winning just as impressively on June 7 despite travelling three wide throughout. The I Am Invincible gelding stays in BM58 company at the mile, while Sheridan Clarke’s 2kg claim brings the weight down to 62.5kg. Look for this bloke to be settled in the second half of the field before unleashing a strong turn of foot to bring up his hat-trick at the track and trip. We’re happy to take the $3 on offer with online betting sites.

Race 9 – Silk #1 Montenegro (9)

3yo Gelding | T: Gareth Andrews | J: Sheridan Clarke (a2) (62kg)

Best Value at Pakenham – Big Darryl

We were with the Andrew Homann-trained Big Darryl when he was narrowly beaten by Apache Star on May 30. He gets a 3.5kg weight advantage on his rival when they meet this time around, and we expect that to be the difference in the third leg of the quaddie. Having not won in 18 months, he is hardly a ‘load up and watch’ type of runner, but the seven-year-old gelding has taken a liking to the synthetic surface, having placed four times from seven starts. With plenty of speed drawn around him, look for Jason Benbow to snag back from the early speed battle and have this guy settled midfield with cover. If he gets the race run to his liking, we expect Big Darryl will grind away at the margin and ultimately get up in the shadows of the winning post.

Best Value

Race 8 – Silk #11 Big Darryl (8)

7yo Gelding | T: Andrew Homann | J: Jasan Benbow (60.5kg)

$8 with Palmerbet
