FRIDAY afternoon racing returns to Pakenham and an intriguing eight-race card awaits punters heading into the weekend.

After a brilliant day on the punt at Canterbury on Wednesday we head to the south of the country to replicate the run.

Race 1 – Racing.com Maiden Plate (1600m)

Chopsticks gets its chance to break through for its maiden win after a dozen of fruitless runs. The horse has never missed a placing over this distance nor at the Pakenham track, and barrier two will hold no fear the horse, which has an ability to jump ultra-fast.

Redrouz is extremely unlikely not to already have its name on the winner’s sheet, but after a string of placings it gets no better chance than Friday. The mare jumps from barrier four and will get a tremendous cart into the race, it is the four-year-old’s chance to shine.

Race 1 tip: Redrouz to win at Crownbet.com.au

Race 2 – BSP Lawyers Maiden (1200m)

Bella Martini is having just its third race start, and after three-weeks away from the track we are expecting it to break through for the Hawkes stable. The filly was extremely unlikely not to win at Sandown at the tail end of June and a similar run to that will see it break the maiden tag on Friday.

Cimette is a Godolphin runner that failed to impress on its debut run at Wangaratta a fortnight ago. The filly is out of Exceed And Excel so we are expecting a much better performance than what it put forward in rural Victoria.

Race 3 – Shinewing Maiden Plate (1200m)

Flash Cash looks the pick of this field after two heartbreaking second placings in both of its career starts. The horse has finished within a length of the eventual winner on both occasions and last time out in Geelong the gelding was only a head away. It looks the race’s best winning hope.

Careering Away came out of the same race as Flash Cash and also finished close to the winner despite not making up the first four. A sharp improvement is expected from the horse in its second-ever start and we think it will be the main horse to challenge our selection.

Race 3 tip: Flash Cash at Crownbet.com.au

Race 4 – Dalton Consulting BM70 (1200m)

Hattrick seeking Valderrama is set to be one of the more popular bets of the day. The five-year-old hammered the field in both of its wins at Geelong, and now travels to Pakenham hoping to replicate the form. The horse has never won at the track but recent form suggests it will be hard to hold out.

Nielson returns after 33 days away from the track, and has a lot going for it in this race. The gelding has a great first up record which has seen it win three times from seven attempts, and prior to the short let up it had won twice and finished outside the placings just one from its last five starts. We are backing the gelding to deliver a quality resuming run.

Race 5 – Pakenham Contractors Maiden (1600m)

Three-year-old Goornong Galaxy has missed the placings just once in its career to date and looks ideally suited to breaking through for Weir on Friday. The horse returns after two weeks away from racing and will be right in the mix at the post.

Pablo Express only just missed out on shaking its maiden tag at the end of June by a head and the gelding will again be pushing our selection right to the wire. The High Chaparral product is usually never too far away and looks to be a progressive type, if it can get the first win under the belt.

We are taking the Weir runner here, but would not be surprised to see either elect get up in what looks to be a fairly weak maiden field.

Race 6 – Bate Design BM70 (2200m)

Sammy The Snake is looking to go one better after finishing second for us last time out. The experienced six-year-old has finished second in its last two races and looks well placed to go one better on Friday.

Wish Come True is aiming to go back-to-back after an incredibly strong win at Pakenham three-weeks ago. The topweight is no stranger to winning at the track and has placed twice at three attempts over the distance. We are backing it to put in a strong showing upon its return to flat racing.

Race 7 – Sportsbet Racing Form BM64 (1000m)

A sprint race rounds us out at Pakenham and New York Celebrity looks best placed her for us to get the job done. The horse is racing second up, where it has placed twice from three attempts in the past. It resumed in good fashion last week as a double figure elect, rounding out the placings in a 12 runner field and will look to improve further on that performance.

Starvasive is first up on Friday, which does not inspire a lot of confidence given it has only placed once at three attempts, but the horse is unbeaten at Pakenham and has won once and placed a further two times over the 1000m journey. The form prior to being turned out is sound for this race and can overcome the lacklustre first up record.

Race 7 tip: New York Celebrity to win at Crownbet.com.au
