Pakenham racing tips – February 11, 2021
Pakenham will host an eight-part meeting on Thursday night as the Victorian night racing season continues. The rail is out 9m for the entire circuit and the track is currently rated a Soft 5, but a favourable forecast suggests we could be racing on a Good 4 come race day. The first at Pakenham is set to jump at 6pm AEDT.
Best Bet: Dunvegan
We were with Dunvegan when he last ran over this track and distance on January 21. Unfortunately, he peaked on his run when hitting the front with 150m to go and went down by a length. It was revealed post race he had excuses with mucus, so we are happy to forgive and forget as he looks to break his maiden at start six. Dunvegan has now strung together three consecutive runner-up performances, so a win is close by, and he looks well placed in this. From barrier three under Luke Currie he should get an economical run in transit, and when the gap comes at the top of the straight he should account for this field and get us off to a flying start.
Race 1 – Dunvegan (#3)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1361155_01]
Next Best: Maui
No matter the price on offer for Maui, snap it up. The Phillip Stokes-trained gelding was absolutely crunched at Sandown on February 3. He is on the quick eight-day backup and will appreciate dropping back from the metro scene. Ben Allen will look to slot in midfield from barrier six, and the long straight at Pakenham will give Maui plenty of time to go through the gears and finish strongly in the opening leg of the quaddie.
Race 5 – Maui (#9)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1361155_05]
Best Value: Ruby Street
Kevin Corstens saddles up Ruby Street on the back of a last-start third behind a couple of handy types. She has chased home a few city-class gallopers in her last two runs and so will find this a touch easier. The lightly raced four-year-old mare is yet to win since her debut performance back in December 2019, but she has shown enough in her five runs since to suggest she can get the job done here. Despite drawing barrier two, we expect Ruby Street to follow her natural pattern and go back towards the rear of the field. With a genuine tempo expected over the 1400m, look for her to pounce on the leaders late down the outside.
Race 8 – Ruby Street (#11)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1361155_08]
