Pakenham Racecourse is scheduled to host an eight-part card on Thursday evening and Horsebetting’s Victorian tipping expert presents his best bets, top odds and free quaddie picks. The track has come up a Soft 5, with the rail returning to the true position, for the meeting commencing at 5:45pm AEDT.

Pakenham Best Bet – Keppel Bay

We do not need to wait too long for our best bet, when the Ben & JD Hayes-trained Keppel Bay steps out in the opening event. Having finished second in both of her career starts to date, the three-year-old Capitalist filly looks primed to break her maiden here at start three. The chestnut filly has loomed up to win at both starts but has ultimately run into one better on the day. From barrier eight, we expect to see Jamie Mott settle the filly either outside of the leader or in the one-one. If she is able to gain that luxury, then her race fitness and form should stack up in a maiden event like this and should be saluting as a clear best bet of the day.

Best betRace 1 – Keppel Bay (#3) $2.90 with Sportsbet

Next Best Bet at Pakenham – Fac

The Greg Eurrell-trained Fac was far from convincing upon return at Geelong on December 21, but the form the four-year-old gelding showed last campaign suggests he is a good bet here. With a win and three runner-up efforts to his name in six career starts, the son of The Factor will take some beating. He will go around with the grandstand on his back, needing to lug 64kg, but with Damian Lane on board he is sure to be given every chance to win. From barrier 10, Frosty will need a touch of luck in not getting trapped wide and if he can have Fac settled outside the leader, he will take some running down at a nice price.

Next BestRace 3 – Fac (#3) $5.00 with Sportsbet

Best Value Bet at Pakenham – Code Blue

In what looks to be an open affair, we will be hoping to bow out a winner in the final race of the night, when Patrick Payne saddles up Code Blue. The five-year-old mare out of Tavistock returned from a three-month spell with a third-place finish at Wangaratta where she was not beaten too far. That was over 1400m, but for this she steps up to the mile, a distance she has three of our four career wins at. Michael Dee will look to have the bay mare settled midfield with cover and if she can find clear air approaching the home turn, she has a turn of foot which should find Code Blue back in the winner’s circle.

Best ValueRace 8 – Code Blue (#11) $11.00 with Sportsbet
