HorseBetting’s Victorian form expert presents his best bets and free quaddie picks for the weekly meeting at Pakenham, where eight races will be run and won from 5:45pm AEDT this Thursday night. The track has come up a Good 4, while the rail is out 7m for the entire circuit.

Pakenham Best Bet – Miss Middle Park

In the penultimate race on the card, we anticipate the Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained Miss Middle Park will find her way back into the winner’s stall. Having been sent around as a short-priced favourite with online bookies at Sandown on January 19, she simply could not go on with the job and was beaten two lengths in third. The three-year-old filly out of Maurice certainly has enough ability to take out a BM64 like this at country level, and from barrier three she is sure to gain a suck run in transit. With a win and two minor placings from three starts this campaign, her form is more than reasonable. She has a nice turn of foot that should prove far too good for this lot in the third leg of the quaddie.

Best betRace 7 – Miss Middle Park (#6) $2.05 with Sportsbet

Next Best Bet at Pakenham – Yulong Code

The Peter Moody-trained Yulong Code can be a frustrating conveyance, but we expect to see the four-year-old son of Zoustar take out the opening leg of the quaddie. With consecutive runner-up efforts to his name, he is approaching peak fitness and looks the one to be with as he steps out over 1200m fourth-up from a spell. Having taken the lead inside the final furlong last time out at this track and distance on January 20, he was just pipped in the shadows of the winning post. This looks to be no harder than that race, and from barrier seven we expect to see him play a prominent role throughout. Luke Nolen sticks on board, which is a bonus, and under a well-timed steer, Yulong Code should prove too good and bring up his first win in close to six months.

Next BestRace 5 – Yulong Code (#4) $2.90 with Sportsbet

Best Value Bet at Pakenham – Venting

In the second leg of the quaddie, we are willing to have a bit of a throw at the stumps when the Danny O’Brien-trained Venting returns from a four-month spell. The three-year-old son of Star Witness has finished within 3.5 lengths of the smart duo Forgot You and Sandy Prince, who would both start at unbackable odds in a race like this. Having won on debut over 1400m in his only campaign, we know he will handle the occasion when first-up. If Venting is anywhere near his best, we anticipate a forward showing at a nice price.

Best ValueRace 6 – Venting (#6) $11 with Sportsbet
