When Thursday, April 1, 2021
First Race 6pm AEDT

An eight-race card is set to be run and won on Thursday evening at Pakenham as the night racing continues for another week. With clear skies forecasted and a perfect autumn night on the agenda, we should seen an upgrade from the current Soft 5 to a Good 4 by the time the first race jumps at 6pm AEDT. The rail is out 5m from the 1000m to the winning post and then out 3m for the remainder of the circuit, so there should be no excuses for fancied runners throughout the night.

Best Bet: Pitchanun

The Danny O’Brien-trained Pitchanun has been in the minor money in both of her two runs this campaign despite being well backed on both occasions. She looks to be well placed on Thursday after gaining a start from barrier two for her third-up run, and with Craig Williams on board, you would expect the tactics to be quite simple: jump away nicely, hit the front, and take a power of beating with a genuinely run 1600m. Both of her starts this campaign have seen Pitchanun grabbed in the final 200m, but she has fought back strongly enough to suggest she will see out the 1600m perfectly.

Best BetRace 2 – Pitchanun (#10) $1.65 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Cuban State

Having drawn wide in barrier 11, Cuban State looks extremely hard to beat in the second leg of the Pakenham quaddie. On debut two runs back he was an all-the-way victor over the 1400m at Pakenham when winning by almost two lengths. He showed at his last start over the 1500m here that he can be versatile, finishing just over a length off the winner after settling midfield and running on nicely. From the wide gate, we expect Luke Currie to have Cuban State back up towards the pace in the field in the second leg of the quaddie.

Next BestRace 6 – Cuban State (#1) $3.10 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Montia

Montia was a close second behind the smart Yosemite at Pakenham on March 11. With the three weeks between runs, she looks ideally placed to bring up her second win at start seven. The Vancouver filly is expected to settle towards the rear of the field, and we see no reason why Jye McNeil cannot mark his first ride on Montia with a win in the first leg of the Pakenham quaddie.

Best ValueRace 5 – Montia (#6) $7.50 with Sportsbet
