An eight-race program has been assembled for Friday’s Orange Gold Cup meeting. While the stayers get their chance in the Cup, the sprinters will be able to scorch the turf in the final race, the Orange Cup Day Showcase Sprint. The track is rated a Good 4, and the rail is out 3.5m from the 500m to the 300m until the cutaway comes into effect. Orange Gold Cup Best Bet: Renalot
Roy McCabe’s five-year-old Camelot mate, Renalot, comes into this off a third placing in the Wellington Cup which saw her hit the line nicely at 1700m. The start prior, she bolted in to win the Cup Prelude over the mile at this track, and her breeding suggests she should appreciate 2100m. She does rise 3kg to 58kg but gets Jay Ford in the saddle, which is a plus. She should be midfield at worst from barrier six and be closing strongly.

Showcase Sprint Best Bet: Miss Scorcher
Five-year-old Miss Scorcher comes into this first up off a two-month spell. She flies fresh, so we expect her to be competitive. The Fighting Sun mare had a decent campaign in Sydney over the summer, so she should find this much easier in the bush. Jeff Penza from barrier one should see her in a beautiful position as they corner, and from there she can dart back towards the cutaway and make herself hard to beat.

Best Bet of the Day: More Shots
More Shots took a while to sort the whole racing game out, but she looks to have done that now for Rob Potter as she aims to make it three straight. While the four-year-old mare by Shooting To Win showed some ability when with Tony Gollan in Queensland, she has found her floor now and can go on with the job in a weak race. She should cross and lead from gate nine and be too hard to catch.
