Orange racing preview
Seven races are set down for judgement at Towac Park Racecourse on Monday as Orange hosts a meeting for the first time since the middle of November. The track has come up a Good 4 with near-perfect conditions for racing, so we’re set fair for what’s sure to be a competitive card. The first race at Orange is set to jump at 2:05pm local time.
James Ponsoby and Winona Costin combine to help steer home our best bet of the day at Orange on Monday. Two starts back Obelos was competitive in a Highway race at Rosehill when finishing two lengths off the winner in fourth place. He has since run in another Highway race at Kembla and had to settle for sixth, but that looks to be the right form to follow in the first leg of the quaddie. From barrier one, the six-year-old gelding is drawn to get the run of the race and do no work in transit. With a bit of luck, he should be railing hard to get the job done and salute as our best bet of the day.

It’s not very often Bjorn Baker sends a runner out to Orange on a Monday afternoon, so we’re happy to pile on to his second starter of the day. In his only start to date, Solva was sent around as favourite at Goulburn on a Heavy 10 back in July and ran fifth. He was then spelled and recently placed in a barrier trial, and now the three-year-old gelding looks well placed to break his maiden at start number two. He maps to take a sit off the speed and storm home late to nab the leaders over the final furlong.

Having run into the minor money in each of his last two starts, Pittsburgh gets his chance to break a run of outs at Orange on Monday. The seven-year-old gelding just missed in a driving go at Dubbo last start and is on the quick six-day backup for this assignment. He’ll be one of the backmarkers in the running, but he does possess a nice turn of foot and should benefit from having apprentice Casey Waddell aboard with the 3kg claim.
