O’Hara to remain in hospital after fall

Jockey Kathy O’Hara will remain in hospital for the next few days while blood and air is drained from her punctured lung.

O’Hara expects to be riding within weeks despite being injured after falling from Single Gaze on the home turn in Saturday’s Australian Oaks.

“Just wanted to let people know I will most likely be in hospital for a few days. Got a bit of blood and air on my lungs with a drain in,” O’Hara tweeted on Monday.

“Thank you for the well wishes.”

O’Hara has been cleared of serious breaks and has a small fracture of the collarbone which is unlikely to require surgery.

She said she would follow up with Racing NSW doctor David Duckworth about her injured right shoulder after she leaves hospital.

Single Gaze, the Vinery Stud Stakes winner, escaped with minor lacerations.

An inquiry into the incident has been delayed until O’Hara is able to attend.
