AUTHENTIC Paddy is in top order for Saturday’s Group One Tarzino Trophy at Hastings, according to trainer Lisa Latta.

“He went a good race in the Foxbridge Plate and he’s very well in himself,” the Awapuni horsewoman said.

Fifth when resuming last time out in the Group Two feature at Te Rapa, Authentic Paddy is a multiple Group One placegetter and he will be ridden for the first time by Leith Innes.

Trainer expecting more of the same

Shaune Ritchie sees no reason why Bee Tee Junior won’t continue his strong run of form at Ruakaka on Saturday.

“He’s racing very well and Eilish (McCall) will take four and a-half kilos off so we think he’ll be very competitive again,” the Cambridge trainer said.

Bee Tee Junior, who is on a path toward the Group Three Christchurch Casino New Zealand Cup, has won three of his last six starts and with the stable apprentice’s claim will carry 55kg in the Harcourts Supporting Hospice.

Race key to later spring targets

Jon Snow isn’t viewed as a strong winning chance in Saturday’s AUD $1 million Group One New Zealand Bloodstock Memsie Stakes (1400m) on Saturday, with the timing of the Caulfield race more important to the Kiwi stayer’s future spring prospects.

“We didn’t really want to run him first-up at a mile,” co-trainer Andrew Forsman said.

“We thought it would be better to get this run into him and then up to a mile second time when I think he’s going to be much more competitive.

“He’s probably a run behind a fair few of them as there’s not many that are fresh-up into it. So he’s going to need the run a bit.

“He’s drawn 10 of 12 so he’s going to get an awkward sort of a run, so nothing really points toward him being competitive, although we wouldn’t be surprised to see him run a cheeky race.”

Waller sticking to tried and true approach

Chris Waller will follow a proven path with New Zealand-owned stayer Alward toward the Group One Metropolitan on September 30.

Managed by Albert Bosma’s Go Racing syndication company, the Irish-bred four-year-old is unbeaten in two Australian starts and he will follow the route taken last year by stablemate Antonio Guiseppe and step out seven days before the Randwick feature.

“Antonio Giuseppe won a 2000 metre race and we backed him up a week later and he ran second in the Metrop,” Waller said.
