Nudgee Stakes Horse Betting Preview
The Listed Magic Millions Nudgee Stakes is a cracking way to conclude the nine race card at Eagle Farm, with a field of 18 to contest the 1200m Fillies & Mares race. Three-year-old filly, Kisukano is the current favourite, ahead of Athiri and Niedorp. They’ll go like the clappers over the six furlongs here, with Niedorp, Kisukano, Boomtown Lass, Spirit’s Choice and Jami Lady all likely to want the lead.
We were really keen on Athiri’s chances in the Christmas Classic at Canterbury on Friday night, but James Cummings elected to scratch her and run her here instead. The four-year-old Lonhro mare has won three from her last four, including a bullish win in the Listed Razor Sharp over 1200m at Randwick last start. She rises 3.5kg for this, but has drawn perfectly in barrier 5 under Rawiller to land on the back of a hot tempo. She loves 1200m, and is racing in a rich vein of form this campaign to suggest she can go on with the job here.
Andrew Homann’s Miss Iano comes off a great second placing at Doomben a fortnight ago behind Racecourse Road. After settling midfield, she was presented at the top of the straight and took a while to warm up, before really letting down and savaging the line. She hasn’t won for nearly 18 months and is a big price here again, but she drops 1kg in weight and steps out to her favoured 1200m journey. Barrier 7 will see her settle midfield and be chiming in late on the big track off the back of a quick pace.
Race favourite, Kisukano could come out and blow them away here from the inside alley. Mark Du Plessis stays aboard and will look to hold the fence and box seat, stalking the leaders. The Bel Esprit filly has form around Rothfire, which has stacked up to be some of the best form in Queensland, and has since had a soft trial win at Toowoomba to bring her on. First-up and over the Eagle Farm 1200m course she is undefeated, and she raced very well on dry tracks. Yet to miss the place in nine career starts, it’s very hard to see her missing the top three here.
