HorseBetting’s Western Australian racing analyst presents you with his best bet in the feature sprint, as well as his best bet, value bet and quaddie numbers for the remainder of the meeting. The track is rated a Good 4 and the rail is in the true position for the entire course, creating ideal racing conditions. Racing is scheduled to commence at 1:07pm AWST.

Northam Stakes Best Bet – Elite Street

It is hard to go against the class of the Northam Stakes field, and in this year’s race, the class is certainly Elite Street. The five-year-old gelding has won over $1 million in prizemoney thanks to a win and a third in back-to-back Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m), as well as seven other wins from only the 17 career starts. The Daniel Morton-trained son of Street Boss won all three lead up races to the 2021 Winterbottom, but ultimately fell at the last hurdle, finishing three lengths away in third in the Ascot feature. The gelding has not raced since his Group 1 defeat, but he has trialled once, finishing sixth of seven in a 1000m Belmont trial on April 11. He has a good first-up record (5:2-0-0) and is two from two over 1100m. With Chris Parnham on from barrier seven, Elite Street should get every chance to return as a winner.

Best Bet at Northam – Honey Dew

Honey Dew is having her first Western Australian start on Sunday after beginning her career with Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou in New South Wales. The three-year-old filly is yet to win a race in five career starts, finishing in the minor money on two occasions at Newcastle and Moruya. Since being in WA, the filly by Headwater has trialled, winning comfortably over 1000m in very similar time to that of Elite Street’s trial on the same day. If she gets a good run in transit – which she should from barrier two – we expect Chris Parnham to get the Jim Taylor-trained galloper home.

Next Best at Northam – Bright Glow

There are quite a few smallish fields on Sunday afternoon which makes it tricky to try and have a confident each-way bet, but in race four, we can do exactly that with the Peter Fernie-trained Bright Glow. The five-year-old gelding is very consistent, winning three times and placing on eight separate occasions from 19 career starts, with one of those victories coming at this track on September 2. The son of Nicconi hasn’t raced since the end of September and comes into this off no official trials, but his first-up record is good enough (6:0-2-1) to be competitive in a rather weak Class 3. Clint Johnston-Porter will do the steering from barrier four and give this gelding every chance of winning his fourth race.
