Cambridge Stud principals Brendan and Jo Lindsay have had a fantastic run with the progeny of their foundation mare J’Adane and they are hoping that will continue when Avadane contests the Listed Piazza D’Oro Auckland Futurity Stakes (1400m) at Ellerslie on Saturday.

The two-year-old daughter of Savabeel could become her dam’s fourth-individual stakes winner alongside Von Tunzelman, Prince Jabeel and Sherrif. “There’s a little bit more pressure on from the owners,” trainer Lance Noble joked. “J’Adane is Brendan and Jo’s foundation broodmare and she has just done an amazing job at stud, so if we could get a bit of black-type with this filly on Saturday we would all be happy. “Everything out of her that has raced has won, so even that in itself is an achievement. “With Avadane being a filly it makes her even more valuable, as she’s the next broodmare to carry on the family.”

Noble has been pleased with Avadane’s two starts-to-date, running on well for fourth on debut at Avondale last month before winning over 1200m at Matamata a fortnight ago. “I thought it was very good run (on debut at Avondale),” Noble said. “She got checked at the start and we got way back, almost last. “She came home really strongly, so that gave us a bit of confidence going into her next start. “When she went to Matamata, they ran a very fast time that day, and we used the barrier draw (three) and she took a position. “She’s come through her last run well.”

Avadane will jump from barrier five on Saturday and will be ridden by Cameron Lammas with regular rider Leith Innes committed to ride in Australia this weekend. “That’s a nice gate, it gives us some options,” Noble said. “Cameron has done a bit of work for us at the trials and he does a great job, so it’s nice to pay him back by giving him a good ride in a Listed race.” Noble believes the step up to 1400m will suit his filly, but he said she is going through a growth spurt at the moment. “She is probably going through another growth spurt, which isn’t always ideal in the middle of a preparation, but her work has been good,” he said. “She is bred to go a bit further, so 1400m should suit her.”

Noble has experienced a great season, boasting an impressive strike-rate of 16 wins from only 84 starts, with two of those at stakes level. Avadane’s full-brother Prince Jabeel was responsible for one of those stakes victories after taking out the Group 3 City of Auckland Cup (2400m) at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day, while fellow juvenile Bavella won the Listed 2YO Stakes (1100m) at Counties in just her second start. “We are pretty proud of that (strike-rate),” Noble said. “We are never going to win a premiership on the numbers we have got, but that’s where you take pride in your strike- rate. “That’s what we are aiming for, to be competitive in the better class races. To get a couple of wins in black-type races is great, we have had a couple of placings also.”

With a number of quality juvenile fillies in his barn, Noble is looking forward to tackling some Classic assignments next season. “We are looking forward to next season, we have got some nice two-year-old fillies at the moment, some have raced and some haven’t,” Noble said. “Hopefully they can make that step up and be running in the better three-year-old fillies races.”
