First Race 1:45pm AEDT

The Beaumont track at Newcastle is set to host a seven-race meeting on Monday afternoon and Horsebetting’s form expert presents his best bets, top odds and free quaddie selections. The track has come up as a Soft 6, with the rail out 2m from the 900-400m then true the remainder, for the meeting commencing at 1:45pm AEDT.

Newcastle Best Bet – Sea Legend

Our best bet of the day comes up in the opening leg of the quaddie when the Jason Dreamer-trained Sea Legend looks to make it consecutive wins for the first time in his career. The four-year-old son of Ocean Park absolutely bolted in at the Gold Coast on December 26 having gained an economical run in transit. Once he ambled up alongside the leader on the home turn, he looked to have the race in his grasp and once asked for an effort quickly put a couple of lengths on his rivals and it was all over pretty quickly. With a rain affected track expected again, he loves the slop with both of his wins coming on wet ground. He draws barrier four under Christian Reith and if he can give Sea Legend a similar run, he should prove too good for a BM58 field like this.

Next Best at Newcastle – Royal Ballet

The Kris Lees-trained Royal Ballet was an eye-catcher when finishing third on December 26 at the Newcastle 1350m. The three-year-old filly remains at the track and distance and considering she was beaten just over a half-length she should be primed for this assignment at her third career start. In her two starts to date, the filly has simply raced too keenly early on in her races and has been made to settle closer to the rear of the field than we would like. If her barrier manners can be a bit cleaner on Monday, then her turn of foot is electric and we expect to see the Coolmore-owned filly finish over the top of her rivals and prove too hard to hold out.

Next BestRace 2 – Royal Ballet (#2) $2.40 with Ladbrokes

Newcastle Value Bet – Mauricently

Following a four-month spell, the Kris Less-trained Mauricently is set to return following a smart debut win at Coffs Harbour back on September 12. She settled in the second half of the field that day and made steady ground in the home straight, before absolutely flying home over the final 100m to get the bob on the line. From barrier two, the three-year-old filly out of Maurice will need a touch of luck under Dylan Gibbons. If she is afforded that type of luxury, then look for Gibbons to have her settled in the second half of the field and with a nice turn of foot, we expect to see her fighting out the finish in a competitive Class 1 affair. Paying $10, Mauricently is offering some nice value at the top online bookmakers.

Best ValueRace 6 – Mauricently (#14) $10 with Sportsbet
