A seven-race card is scheduled for Muswellbrook Race Club on Thursday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s New South Wales form analyst presents his best bets and top quaddie numbers. The track is rated a Soft 6, the rail is out 3m from the 1000m to the 300m mark until the cutaway applies, and the meeting is set to start at 1:25pm AEST.
Muswellbrook Best Bet: Conegliano
In the opening leg of the quaddie, the Annabel Neasham-trained Conegliano comes to Muswellbrook following a dominant maiden victory at Nowra on August 22 and looks well placed to bring up consecutive wins as he steps into BM66 company. Having found himself in a tricky situation at Nowra, Brodie Loy managed to get him off the rails approaching the home turn, and with 200m to go, the three-year-old son of Pierro knuckled down to storm clear by over three lengths in the end. Alysha Collett reclaims the reins from Loy on Thursday, and stepping up to 1500m third-up from a spell looks perfect for Conegliano.
Race 4 – Conegliano (#9)Next Best at Muswellbrook: Zetarita
Kris Lees and Dylan Gibbons combine with three-year-old Zetarita following a second-place finish on debut at Taree on August 17. Having sat behind a tearaway leader, she couldn’t bridge the big gap as Riva Del Sol went on to score by close to 1.5 lengths. Our filly did manage to put some four lengths on her rivals back in the field, however, suggesting she will take some running down on Thursday if she gets the race run in a suitable fashion. From barrier eight, Gibbons will look to go forward and settle outside the leader, and with a touch of race fitness and ability on her side, Zetarita should be too quick over 1000m.
Race 2 – Zetarita (#11)Muswellbrook Next Best Again: Zakor
In the final leg of the quaddie, the Jan Bowen-trained Zakor is set to return from an 18-week spell. If he brings the form he showed in his debut campaign, the three-year-old Epaulette gelding is sure to be fighting out the finish. Zakor managed to run within in a length of Baby Wong at his last start, and that horse has gone around in strong races in town since. From barrier nine, with speed drawn under him, Reece Jones will look to go forward on this improving gelding and settle outside the leader. In a Class 1 that appears to lack depth, Zakor should prove hard to run down.
