Muswellbrook Gold Cup Best Bet

Bjorn Baker and Rory Hutchings combine in the Gold Cup with race favourite Starspangled Rodeo. The six-year-old gelded son of Teofilo was a dominant all-the-way winner at Rosehill two starts back before only being collared by Yao Dash in his latest start over 1350m. He rises half a kilogram from his last start, but this race is much easier and the 1500m should suit. The gelding is yet to win on a Heavy track, but he has never been out of the placings in five efforts on Soft going. He will go forward under Josh Parr and will be hard to run down.

Best BetRace 8 – Starspangled Rodeo (#2) $3.30 with Sportsbet

Newhaven Park Country Championship Wild Card Qualifier Best Bet

Brett Cavanough’s quality gelding Fender resumes after a somewhat disappointing spring. The four-year-old went into the carnival unbeaten from four starts but was not quite up to the class in the Group 2 Theo Marks or The Kosciuszko. Back to a much weaker race and to a track where he is two from two looks a perfect way to start his campaign. With a spot in the Country Championship Final on the line, Keagan Latham will do the steering from out wide in barrier 13. He is likely to cross over and lead, and with his superior wet track form he should be too good for them. Fender should be paying around the $3.20 quote with the best Australian betting sites.

Best BetRace 7 – Fender (#5) $3.10 with Sportsbet

Best Bet of the Day

Another runner from the Cavanough stable that looks a near-good thing is the talented Water Dove. The three-year-old filly by Headwater won her first two career races in good style before being runner-up in consecutive TAB Highways at Randwick behind the current Country Championship Final favourite Art Cadeau and recent city winner Leo. Back to a country Class 2, she has drawn all the favours to go forward and make every post a winner from barrier 12 under Latham. She has won on a Soft track, so from her small amount of exposed form we can assume she will get through the Heavy alright. Very hard to beat.

Best BetRace 5 – Water Dove (#9) $2.80 with Sportsbet
