A nine race card is set down for judgement on Saturday afternoon when Murray Bridge plays host to the metropolitan meeting in South Australia. The forecast is for a clear afternoon on Saturday, and with the track coming up a Good 4 for the meeting, it looks to be a great day for some racing. There looks to be some nice value in the Murray Bridge Quaddie on Saturday, and we will try and tip you a couple of other winners along the way. The first at Murray Bridge is set to jump at 12:15pm ACDT.
Best Bet: Race 8 #1 Heyington Station
The Victorian-based Heyington Station will look to make his trip over to South Australia for Phillip Stokes a successful one in the third leg of the Murray Bridge quaddie. Two starts back at Moonee Valley on December 4, he was an eye-catching winner after bombing the start and settling last. He then found a way to round up his rivals in the home straight, which is no mean feat at The Valley. His last start effort at Caulfield was full of merit. When leading the field up and continually finding another effort in the home straight to only go down by three quarters of a length, eventually finishing fourth. If he brings his recent form to Murray Bridge, he will be hard to beat no matter if he goes back from the wide gate or they opt to press forward.
Next Best: Race 2 #3 Serious Spender
Fresh off a dominant win at Morphettville back on Boxing Day, the Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas trained Serious Spender will look to put together a hat trick of wins when he steps out over the Murray Bridge 2000m. As a galloper who prefers to settle towards the rear of the field, he shouldn’t find himself more than four-to-five lengths off the pace with only a field of eight going around in race 2. Serious Spender will make his move at the 600m mark and in current form is hard to ignore. With Jason Holder retaining the ride, he is the one to beat.
Best Value: Race 6 #3 Raise an Army
If you look at the Shayne Cahill trained gelding’s form on paper he is always there or thereabouts without breaking through for a win. However, he gets into a No Metro Wins handicap well in the weights (down 4kgs on his last run) and has been racing in solid enough form to suggest he could get the job done. He relishes a firm ground and with Dom Tourneur on board they should be fighting out the finish.
