Murray Bridge Races 1st January 2021 Horse Betting Preview
Eight races are set down for judgement on New Year’s Day as racing resumes in South Australia for another year. With a scorcher forecast for race day, we should remain on the Good 4 that the track is already rated at the time of writing, before an upgrade to a Good 3 during the middle stages of the meeting.
The first of eight races is set to jump at 12:56pm AEDT.
Fresh off consecutive victories at Morphettville and Strathalbyn, we’re hoping the Grant Young trained Exalted Traveller can string together a hat trick of wins in the final event on the Murray Bridge Card. The gelding was given the run of the race at Strathalbyn before a run opened up on the corner of the home straight and quickly put a couple of lengths on his rivals before going on to score by three lengths. He maps to get a similar run in transit for this assignment and with apprentice Jacob Opperman on board with his 2kg claim, they look hard to hold out in the last.

The Luke O’Connor trained Smiling Assassin looked like he was about to break through for his maiden victory before peaking on his run over the last 100m to settle for another second place finish. Despite eventually going down by 2.5 lengths, the quinella put an extra 4.5 lengths on the remainder of the field showing that a win is close by. Smiling Assassin may never get a better chance to breakthrough for his maiden victory, and at start 12 he should be getting the job done.

We are with the Grant Young and Jacob Opperman combination in the final race, but we’re hoping they can put together a race to race double starting in the penultimate event. Circus Dancer tends to settle towards the back of the field, and managed to round up his rivals last time out at Strathalbyn and went on to win by a length. He maps to get a similar run in transit in this BM54 and over 1200m and may prove hard to hold out.
