For the first time since March 4, Saturday metropolitan racing heads to Murray Bridge, where nine races are set down for decision. With showers forecast on race day and the track coming up a Soft 6 at the time of acceptances, the surface should be around that Soft 6 or Soft 7 mark. The rail sticks to the true position the entire circuit, with racing commencing at 11:32am ACST.

Best Bet at Murray Bridge: Outback Action

Our best bet of the day at Murray Bridge comes up in the opening leg of the quaddie as the Peter Moody-trained Outback Action looks to build on his last start Mornington triumph. The four-year-old gelded son of Better Land put three lengths on the smart Our Redente on April 22 when leading throughout. It is rarely a disadvantage to be out in front at Murray Bridge and with the in-form Jason Holder hopping on board, he is sure to give his rivals something to gun down. We expect ‘Stubby’ Holder to look for a cheap sectional upon settling and outside of the complete outside Masterarti, there looks to be little to no speed influencers in this and Outback Action should be strong for this lot following a comfy run in transit.

Next Best at Murray Bridge: Dixie Whistler

Dixie Whistler has been below her best at her last two starts in arguably harder company than this and we expect she will bounce back to form in fine style. The five-year-old mare was in a decent run of form prior to her last two starts and looks well-placed by the Will Clarken & Nikki O’Shea barn in this 2500m affair. Lachie Neindorf sticks on board and with a strong record of 20: 4-6-2 aboard the Rebel Raider mare, we know he will get the best out of her throughout. With the 1.5kg claim, 53.5kg on her back and from barrier three, Dixie Whistler draws to gain a perfect in transit throughout. She is yet to win at 2500m in six goes, but with four minor placings at the trip to her name, the writing is on the wall for Dixie Whistler to breakthrough on Saturday.

Best Value at Murray Bridge: Irish Thorn

The John Hyam-trained Irish Thorn hadn’t shown too much at his jumpouts prior to his debut, but the way he ran on over the 1000m at a big price, suggested he was worth following. He settled last on debut at this track but hit the line with great intent to suggest that the 1200m second-up should do nothing but suit him. He was beaten home under a length by Wally Weston that occasion, with that horse set to go around as a short-priced favourite in this. If Callan Murray can have him a pair or two closer upon settling and with natural improvement under his belt, Irish Thorn looks a great each-way play at a big price with online bookmakers.

Race 2 – Silk #5 Irish Thorn (8)
