Moyhenna spreadeagled the field in the Charleville Cheese Irish EBF Mares Novice Chase at Limerick.

Trained and ridden by Denis Hogan, the seven-year-old filled the runner-up spot on her first two starts over fences behind a couple of Willie Mullins inmates in Camelia De Cotte and Pravalaguna.

Moyhenna had failed to complete on her two most recent outings at Fairyhouse and Thurles and was a $6 shot at online bookmaker Neds to bounce back in this Grade Two event.

Hogan’s charge could be called the winner a long way from home as she travelled and jumped powerfully on her way to a facile 25-length success.

The Mullins-trained favourite Redhotfillypeppers made a bad mistake at the final fence when already well held and was ultimately beaten to the runner-up spot by 33-1 shot Oh Me Oh My.

Hogan said: “I was never as sick as I was coming home from Thurles the last day and the quick ground floored her the time before in Fairyhouse – she is a National Hunt mare and was going a stride quicker and is not for good ground.

“I took a chance running her the last two days on good ground and thankfully she came back sound.

“She wants to jump and looks after herself. She is a proper mare and I’m delighted for the lads who own her.”

He added: “I entered her for the Irish Grand National during the week and she was rated just 125 before today, but we’ll see.

“There are more of those mares’ novices and there is also the Fowler Chase at Fairyhouse over the Easter weekend.”
