Morphetville Race By Race Betting Analysis & Tips Saturday 29th August 2020

Leon Macdonald

We are back on the Parks track at Morphettville for the first time since the 1st of August 2020, and with ideal conditions forecasted the rail is out 3 metres from the 1000 metres to the winning post and true the remainder as it was on the 1st. If that is anything to go by we are set to see winners able to come from anywhere in the run, but more with a slight preference to on-pace runners.

The Listed Leon Macdonald Stakes is the feature event on the card and a short priced favourite has come up in Dalasan at $1.55. Nine races are set down for judgement and let’s hope we can steer ourselves into a couple of winners.

Morphetville Tips Leon Macdonald Stakes Day

Race 1Tip: No.4 So You Can$3.60 with Sportsbet

A six horse field greets us after the scratching of #3 Blood Sweat Tears. The second favourite So You Can (#4) is on top despite a slightly worrying run upon resumption on soft going a fortnight ago. He seems to map quite decently in this opening event and will most likely settle one off the fence and come over the top of them late as he has been screaming out for a longer distance. Obvious danger is the top weight Crown Mint who has in-form Jessica Eaton on board and is yet to miss a placing in his short career, will settle towards the back of the field and should be fighting out the finish as well.

Race 2Tip: No.2 Lord Vladivostok $4.40 with Sportsbet

Another small field for Race 2, but nonetheless no simpler. $4.20 the field for this BM68 over 1550 metres, where Ice Ghost (#1) goes around favourite. The gelding is coming off a quick back up after running at Murray Bridge last Saturday where he was runner-up behind Tubby Two Tracks, can perform when up on speed or coming down the outside late in the run. However, with that in mind have settled on the ex-kiwi galloper Lord Vladivostok (#2) who with Jess Eaton on board with her 2kg claim, he is 6 months to the day since his last run in the New Zealand Derby and looks set to continue the recent Kiwi dominance in the city of churches. Pearl Bandit (#5) has genuine claims too.

Race 3Tip: No.4 Silverhawk$4.40 with Sportsbet

Eight horses line up again for this BM72 over 1250 metres where Tony McEvoy has a strong hold on the market having two of the top three fancies. The Difference (#7) first of all for the McEvoy yard has come up favourite which is no surprise after it’s impressive win a month back, whilst the stablemate Sign Of Ussuri (#2) has been well found in the market after a string of runner up performances behind a couple of handy types in this grade. However, have settled on the Will Clarken trained Silverhawk (#3) who was accepted in the BM78 at Caulfield, but has been set for this race and will look to settle in the back half of the field and figure up promisingly at the home turn and may prove too hard to catch.

Race 4Tip: No.1 Bertwhistle$5.00 with Sportsbet

Arguably one of the harder races on the card, Race 4 sees a BM78 over 2250 metres for the stayers and there is plenty of runners in form and capable of taking this one out. Plenty of these have gone around against each other in previous weeks, however the slight exception is Bertwhistle (#1) who was third behind Exemplar at Flemington three weeks ago and seems the right play in this field. The ever consistent former hurdler Andrea Mantegna (#2) is inching closer to a breakthrough victory, whilst Exalted Ruth (#4), Coffee Amour (#5) and our Ourkhani (#8) all must be included in exotics.

Race 5Tip: No.3 Ace Of Clubs$5.50 with Sportsbet

Another race in Adelaide, another favourite for the Tony McEvoy stable, this time Tatalina (#2) comes up a $2.90 favourite after finishing off nicely last start at Murray Bridge three weeks ago and will most likely get the last look at these. Have gone with Ace of Clubs (#3) on top after an impressive campaign so far, Roslyn Day seems to have found the answer with this galloper in having Claudia Lions on board for his last 4 starts and is yet to run outside of the top 2. At $5.50 this seems the logical play in a tricky BM64

Race 6Tip: No.2 Guess Again$5.00 with Sportsbet

An eight horse field awaits us for the opening leg of the quaddie. Favourite Streetcar Stranger (#5) ran second in the Listed TAB Lightning Stakes to the impressive Parlophone and is drawn the rails and is set to get the gun run in transit. On top however is the visiting Victorian galloper Guess Again(#2), who has form around Sword Of Mercy in recent starts. Last start was comfortable winner at Warrnambool and will look to build on the promising start to her campaign. Viduka (#4) and Exalted Maxine (#6) all go in.

Race 7 Leon Macdonald StakesBest Bet: No.9 Dalasan$1.55 with Sportsbet

The feature WRA Listed Leon Macdonald Stakes and ironically Macdonald himself trains the short priced favourite Dalasan (#9) who was impressive in rescuing when 2nd to Behemoth who runs in the Memsie Stakes on Saturday as favourite. All Dalasan will have to do is bring that form to this race and will prove way too classy for this lot. At $1.55 expect Dalasan in plenty of multi’s across the country and looks to be the best bet on the card. Dexelation (#3) would be the main dangers after his gritty win at The Valley last start.

Race 8Best Bet: No.7 Skilled Bunch$7.50 with Sportsbet

In the penultimate race on the card, one of the biggest fields on the card come together over 1300 metres with quite a few chances. Have gone with Skilled Bunch (#7) on top, who has drawn the rails and looks set to get every favour in the run and may prove too hard to catch late in the straight. Chucky (#1) was an eye catcher at Murray Bridge a fortnight ago and must be included. Whilst Xingyun (#4) and Sadente (#5) each has genuine claims for the prize money in what is a wide open affair.

Race 9Tip: No.12 Kayseri$7.00 with Sportsbet

The Get Out stakes at Morphettville and the McEvoy camp have scratched early favourite in The Natural (#10). In a race that seems bereft of pace Kayseri (#12) looks value and has been solid in the placings over the past couple of starts and gets back to a good surface. Fields of Ivy (#14), Alsvior (#3) and Ambidazzle (#2) all go in the quaddie.
