A nine-part card is scheduled for Morphettville on Saturday afternoon, and HorseBetting.com.au’s South Australian form analyst present his best bets and top quaddie selections. The track is rated a Soft 6 and is expected to only improve in the lead up to the meeting, which is set to start at 11:52am ACST (12:22pm AEST).
Morphettville Best Bet: Spanish Heirloom
The in-form Travis Doudle yard put the finishing touches on four-year-old mare Spanish Heirloom, who returns to the Morphettville 1100m second-up from a spell. Her first-up run looks to be a complete forgive, having found herself in traffic until it was too late at Murray Bridge on August 7. She strung together four consecutive victories during her initial campaign, including a dominant 2.5-length win over the Morphettville 1000m on March 13. Her initial campaign ended in a run in the Listed Redelva Stakes, so she clearly has plenty of potential, and with a win to her name second up from a spell already, we expect her to get us off to the best start possible with a win in the opener.
Race 1 – Spanish Heirloom (#6)Next Best at Morphettville: Spelman
We will be looking to bookend the Morphettville program when Ryan Balfour saddles up the lightly raced four-year-old Spelman in the final event of the day. Despite doing a fair bit wrong at his second career start at Gawler on August 11, the Toronado gelding still managed to put 2.5 lengths on his rivals in what was an eye-catching display. Having sat along the rails behind the leaders that day, he is sure to gain a similar advantage on Saturday having drawn barrier one, and with even luck, it is hard to see how he gets beaten. Karl Zechner retains the ride, which is an added bonus, while Balfour’s yard is striking at an impressive 25% from their past 20 starters.
Race 9 – Spelman (#6)Best Value at Morphettville: Yulara
Amy and Ash Yargi send five-year-old Yulara to Morphettville following a dominant win at Donald on August 1, winning by close to four lengths. Having not finished worse than fifth in his last seven starts, the All Too Hard gelding is racing in career-best form and strikes a winnable race here. With Dom Tourneur on board over 2025m, we expect to see Yulara settled in the second half of the field. He showed at Donald he can sustain a long run, and we expect to see him finishing over the top of his rivals.
