The Morphettville Parks track is scheduled to host a nine-race card on Saturday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s South Australian racing expert presents his best bets and quaddie selections for the meeting. The track is rated a Good 4, with the rail out 7m from the 1000m to the winning post and then out 4m for the remainder. Racing is set to get underway at 12:28pm ACST (12:58pm AEST).
Morphettville Best Bet: Star Of Uma
In the second leg of the quaddie, Tony and Calvin McEvoy will be hoping Ben Price and his 3kg claim will help get Star Of Uma back into the winner’s circle. It is hard to knock her racing pattern – she jumps nicely from the gates and looks to make it a genuinely run affair – and Price’s claim will only help her cause. With speed drawn directly to the outside, Price may opt to take a sit off the leader instead of having Star Of Uma eyeballed over 1300m. The I Am Invincible mare is the clear class runner in the race, and if she brings her best, her rivals in this Mares BM68 should not even get close.
Next Best at Morphettville: Sign Of Ussuri
The Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained Sign Of Ussuri has become a tricky horse to catch and having not won in 15 months, there is no doubt he is due for a win. Having bombed the start and giving his rivals too much of a head start, the five-year-old son Fastnet Rock made up plenty of ground in the home straight when finishing third beaten 1.4 lengths. Having been held up for a run until it was too late when first up at Sandown on August 8 and then that performance over this track and distance on September 4, he just needs a little luck to go his way and get that winning confidence back. From barrier three, look for Barend Vorster to have him settled midfield in the moving line and if he produces a similar turn of foot, he should prove too hard to hold out.
Best Value at Morphettville: Lohn Ranger
Our top value bet at Morphettville comes up in the third leg of the quaddie when the John Macmillan-trained Lohn Ranger steps out over 1000m. Having not finished worse than fifth in five runs this campaign, the son of O’lonhro hardly knows how to run a bad race. He looked to have it sewn up on September 11 before finding one better over the final 50m. From barrier 12, Stacey Metcalfe will go forward on the six-year-old, and with just 55.5kg on his back, he should prove too hard to run down. This is a step up in class from a BM64 to a BM72, but if he brings the form he has shown this campaign, he will give us a good sight at odds.
