Morphettville Best Bet: Karacasu
You do not need to look too far into the form guide to find our best bet, as the Richard & Chantelle Jolly-trained Karacasu steps out in the opening event as the top weight. Having impressed many a punter in his two-year-old campaign, the now three-year-old son of Headwater is set to resume off a four-month spell. Having run the smart Heresy to within a half-length in the Group 3 David Coles AM Stakes in the autumn, Karacasu clearly has plenty of ability and looks well placed to bring up a win first-up from a spell. He draws the rails with Jake Toeroek on board, and despite winning once from four starts, with three runner-up efforts, he should prove too hard to hold out. Despite drawing barrier one, look for Toeroek to have him settled closer to last than up on speed. In the small field of six, Karacasu should be getting us off to a perfect start as he rounds up his rivals in one fell swoop.
Race 1 – Karacasu (#1)Next Best at Morphettville: Castle Of Kings
Will Clarken sent Castle Of Kings back to the mid-week races at Gawler on September 1 in what looked to be a decision purely based on building his confidence. He managed to bolt in under a hold as a $1.24 favourite and broke through for a deserving maiden win. He had managed to run in the minor placings on four occasions including three runner-up efforts. We expect that win at Gawler is what he needed to go on with it and he looks well placed to bring up consecutive wins in the second leg of the Morphettville quaddie. Despite drawing barrier eight, the four-year-old son of Castledale has the barrier speed to get across the front of the field and settle outside the leader. The step up to the mile second-up from a spell looks ideal, and if he avoids getting trapped wide early, we expect him to be charging clear once more and proving too hard to run down.
Race 7 – Castle Of Kings (#5)Best Value at Morphettville: Belsielle
Our value play of the day comes in the Listed W H Wylie Handicap, when the David and Coral Fleek-trained Belsielle looks to bring her strong Melbourne form across to Adelaide. Having won three of her past five starts, she comes to Morphettville with plenty of confidence behind and is fresh off a gutsy win at Moonee Valley on August 21. From barrier three, we expect Barend Vorster to lob Belsielle just off the leader’s heels, and with even luck in the home straight she should prove too hard to hold out.
