Morphettville is scheduled to host a nine-race card on Saturday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s South Australian horse racing expert presents his best bets and quaddie selections for the meeting. The track is rated a Good 4, with the rail out 3m from the 1200m-400m and then true for the remainder for the circuit. Racing is set to commence at 12:32pm ACDT (1:02pm AEDT).
Morphettville Best Bet – Blackcomb
The Listed Hill Stakes is the feature event at Morphettville on Saturday, and Danny O’Brien sends his three-year-old filly Blackcomb to the 1800m event following a second-place finish in the Oaks Trial at Flemington on September 22. Despite still being a maiden after four starts, she has chased home Barb Raider at two of her last three starts and is the current VRC Oaks favourite. Having raced in tight room when entering the home straight at Flemington, the daughter of Vancouver was entitled to finish closer than the two lengths she was defeated by. She has shown a sharp turn of foot over the concluding stages, and with Barend Vorster on board, she looks a clear best bet on the program. Look for Blackcomb to settle closer to last and then finish over the top of her rivals on the way to a run in the VRC Oaks.
Next Best Bet at Morphettville – The Billionaire
Anthony & Sam Freedman bring their four-year-old son of Written Tycoon to the Morphettville 1200m following a brave run in defeat at Mornington on September 26. The Billionaire chased home the smart sprinter Starry Legend when defeated just over a length despite needing to travel four wide without cover. Having not finished worse than second in his past five runs, he simply does not know how to run a poor race. From barrier one with Jason Holder on board, we expect to see The Billionaire settle just off the leader’s heels, and it will only be bad luck that gets him beat. If he brings his best here, he should be simply too good for this lot second-up from a spell.
Best Value Bet at Morphettville – So Say Angel
They say winning form is good form, and considering So Say Angel has strung together three wins in succession, he presents great value. From barrier two on Saturday, she draws to get a cosy run in transit with Todd Pannell on board, and if she brings her recent form to this BM72, she may take some holding out. Having shown she can win from up on speed or when running on from the rear of the field, it is hard to understand why she is $12. The step up in grade is the only concern, but So Say Angel looks a great shout at odds.
