The track is rated a Good 4, the rail returns to the true position, and the meeting is set to commence at 12:17pm ACDT (12:47pm AEDT).
Morphettville Best Bet – Our Deep Agenda
Our Deep Agenda from the Jon O’Connor yard has put together consecutive wins for the first time in his career and looks set to go on with the job here. Having won at the Morphettville Parks 1250m last time out on November 13, the five-year-old son of Deep Field returns to the track and distance looking for a hat-trick of wins. From barrier eight, he will need a touch of luck early on to find a spot up on speed, but with the booking of Angus Chung, we expect to see him settle outside the leader or take up the lead himself. With Chung’s 3kg claim, Our Deep Agenda gets in with the minimum weight of 58kg, and he should be far too good for this lot.
Next Best Bet at Morphettville – Addictions
The Trevor Montgomerie-trained Addictions has won four of her last five races and looks well placed to build on that form here. It is hard to knock her racing pattern, as she looks to roll forward, dictate terms and make each race a genuinely run affair. The five-year-old mare stays at the 1250m, and from barrier one with Todd Pannell on board, she should have little trouble in finding the front of the field. The step up to a BM72 from a BM64 affair should not be an issue, and with her want to find the lead, it is hard to see how some of her rivals can chase her down.
Best Value Bet at Morphettville – Thompson’s Reward
The old marvel that is Thompson’s Reward has hit a bit of a purple patch this campaign, finishing no worse than fourth in his past six runs. With three runner-up efforts and a win to his name in that time, the $8.50 is well worth a play as he steps out over 1000m this weekend. He beat home race favourite Alleboom three starts back on October 23 and looks a genuine winning chance here despite the price differential. From barrier eight, Paul Gatt will look to have the seven-year-old settled with cover, and with a well-timed sprint he should be fighting out the finish.
