Morphettville Racecourse plays host to strong nine-race program on Saturday afternoon for Wylie Handicap Day. The track has come up a Soft 6 for racing and despite the rail being out 6m the entire circuit, we anticipate it will still be a perfect day for racing in Adelaide.
The first of nine races is set to go at 12:12pm ACST.
Wylie Handicap Top Tip: Taunting
The Listed Wylie handicap (1100m) is the headline act at Morphettville this weekend and with just 54kg on his back, we are happy to side with the progressive Taunting. The four-year-old gelding has returned with consecutive emphatic victories following close to 12 months on the sidelines and on Saturday gets his first crack at Listed level. He has two wins from two starts at the Morphettville 1100m and from barrier 11 with the lightweight, we expect Jessica Eaton to hunt for the rail from the widest gate and take up the running. She has an 8kg weight advantage over the likes of Behemoth and Kemalpasa and despite lacking a touch of class against some of his rivals, we expect Taunting to prove too hard to run down in the Wylie Handicap.

Best Bet at Morphettville: Alpha Flight
The first horse we find in the race book is the Richard & Chantelle Jolly-trained Alpha Flight who has had a superb campaign thus far. The three-year-old gelding narrowly went down to Merry Mac Boy on the Parks track on August 27 in a stirring battle down the straight. He drops back to the 1050m, a distance that looks to suit him down to the ground as he showed when bolting home over 1100m two runs back on a Heavy 9. Ben Price sticks on board which is a massive plus considering he’ll claim 2kg. From barrier three, look for Price to lob this bloke outside expected leader Philosopher and with race fitness on his side and natural ability, Alpha Flight should be a great bank builder with online bookmakers in the opener.

Next Best at Morphettville: Another Ponzi
We will be hoping it is a race-to-race double for the Richard & Chantelle Jolly yard when Another Ponzi steps out in the second event over 1200m. The three-year-old gelding was a good thing beaten on debut at Murray Bridge on September 7 when needing to travel three wide no cover up on speed. Despite the hard run, the son of Charm Spirit kept coming at the eventual winner only to miss the bob by the barest of margins. From barrier two, getting caught wide on Saturday will not be an issue and from the low draw, we expect Jake Toeroek will stalk race favour Sghirripa wherever he goes. When the opportunity arises at the 200m, we expect Another Ponzi to waltz by and bring up a maiden victory at start two.

Best Value at Morphettville: Hinto Blue
The Ben & JD Hayes-trained Hinto Blue is as honest a horse you could ask for and having gone down a lip on the Parks track on August 27, we expect he will go one better here at a nice price. The six-year-old gelding was aided by a gun ride along the rails that day and with 100m to go looked the winner, only to be nabbed right on the post. Laura Lafferty sticks on board and from barrier one with a 3kg claim, we expect to see this son of Tavistock settled close to the speed throughout the event. With even luck at the right time and with a strong turn of foot, the $14 on offer with online betting sites looks a perfect price to take on.
