Morphettville hosts a nine-race metro meeting on Saturday, August 23, headlined by the Listed Leon Macdonald Stakes (1400m). With clear skies forecast on raceday and leading into the meeting, the track is likely to be a Good 4, whilst the rail will be in its true position the entire circuit on the Parks track. The opening event is set to commence at 12:10pm ACST.
Leon Macdonald Stakes Tip: Dubai Poet
Dubai Poet has the right profile for a WFA 1400m on the Morphettville Parks circuit. He kept his powder dry through the autumn and has returned in good order; his ratings around this trip stack up, he handles give in the ground, and Todd Pannell is a positive booking. From a sticky draw (13), he’s versatile enough to slide across and find cover in the three-wide line, which is often no disadvantage at Parks. With stablemate Cotehele, Tippa and Wild Imagination in attendance, this will be truly run. The tempo is set to favour favours Dubai Poet who will be strong late.

Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young have placed Murmullo superbly, and she finds a very winnable F&M 0-68 over 1400m. She’s a mare trending the right way (two wins from her last three) and draws to stalk the speed from gate eight. Jordan Childs sticks, and at the set weights/ratings she maps to get the perfect run one-off, midfield, before presenting on the bend. Her recent figures at the trip are superior to most of these, and a soft deck is no knock. With even luck, Murmullo should prove hard to hold out.

Lightly raced and progressive, Thunder Shoc brings race fitness and a sharp turn of foot into a 1000m BM72 that looks within her grasp. The Will Clarken stable has her humming and the recent win/placing profile reads well for a race lacking a standout. From a wide draw Rochelle Milnes will look to get the mare out of the gates cleanly and try and run her rivals ragged from a forward position.
