Morphettville Boxing Day betting preview
The Christmas celebrations will continue on Boxing Day at Morphettville with what looks to be a competitive nine-race card. We are racing on the course proper on what is forecasted to be a hot summer’s day, so we should see an upgrade from the current Good 4 to a Good 3 early on in the piece. With the rail out 4m from the 1200m to the winning post, there should be no excuses for anyone. The first at Morphettville is set to jump at 12:26pm ACDT.
Formerly with Anthony Freedman, Lake’s Folly has been transferred to the Michael Hickmott stable and enters this no-metro-win handicap well placed to break a run of outs. He has gone around as favourite in nine of his 11 career starts, including three times last campaign at odds-on. Now, most people would jump off him, but we are happy to stick fat for this first-up assignment considering he has won twice already when starting a campaign. From barrier four, the in-form Jess Eaton should be able to settle him in a handy position, and the four-year-old gelding’s sharp turn of foot should be too much for these.
On the back of two dominant victories at Morphettville, we’ll be hoping that Just Chipping Away can make it a hat-trick of wins on Saturday in this BM72 over 1200m. At her last start here three weeks back, she found a nice spot three wide with cover and put away her rivals within a couple of strides. From barrier three, Jason Holder should be able to settle in a forward position. The mare is racing in peak fitness and, with a little bit of luck at the top of the straight, should prove too strong late.
The Sue Murphy-trained Hasta La Fiorente is never far away in the running, and based on that we’re hoping the gelding can help us in the get-out stakes on Saturday. He has run in the money in each of his last seven starts and has finished in the quinella in all of his past four runs. In that stretch he has only put the one win on the board, but he’s safely held the remainder of his rivals. The key is getting him to settle early in the running, as he does get quite keen, but Dom Tourneur has a fantastic relationship with him and we’re happy to be on his side.
