The Will Clarken trained 3yo filly Garvoc presents as one of the better bets of the day having won three of her four career starts. Her last-start failure was in a listed race behind some very handy gallopers in Garner and Roccabascerana, so she should be suited by the drop in class back to a BM64. Todd Pannell will likely cross from barrier nine and look to control the race. The 60kg isn’t an issue here as the top weight, The General, has to carry 62.5kg. Last weekend’s Group 1-winning combo in Clarken and Pannell can get punters off on a winning note in the first.

Bajan is coming off a great last-start effort where he hit the line very well over 1400m. He rises to 1800m, where is unbeaten at the distance (1:1-0-0). Kayla Crowther’s 1.5kg claim takes him down to just 56.5kg. Drawn to do very little work, we expect Bajan to settle towards the rear and utilise his strong finish. At $13, we are happy to take the David Jolly runner on an each-way basis.

The South Australian Derby shapes to be a ripping contest between Victorian Derby winner Warning, Port Adelaide Guineas & Chairman’s Stakes winner Dalasan and the enigmatic up-and-comer Russian Camelot. While the latter of that trio hasn’t had an ideal preparation having missed his last start, this race has been the target for a long time and we think Danny O’Brien can have the horse peaking to win this. Russian Camelot is drawn well in barrier seven, so John Allen can find a midfield spot and preserve his energy for the home straight.
