First Race 11:32am ACST

Metropolitan racing in South Australia returns to Morphettville on Saturday afternoon for a nine-race program kicking off at 11:32pm local time. With plenty of rain around in Adelaide, the track has come up a Soft 6 at the time of acceptances; however, with another 25mm of rain forecast between Thursday and Saturday, a Heavy deck is expected. The rail comes out 10m from the 1200m to the winning post and out 6m the remainder.

Best Bet at Morphettville: Metro Legend

On June 10, the Aaron Bain-trained Metro Legend managed to gain an uncontested lead and, under a well-rated steer from Jacob Opperman, never really looked like getting beat. He strikes a similar race on the weekend, and considering he has four wins and two minor placings from 11 runs on wet ground, he should handle what is front of him here. From barrier four, with his customary early speed, Metro Legend should gain another uncontested lead en route to his second win in a row.

Next Best at Morphettville: Declared

The David Jolly-trained Declared has won both runs this preparation and looks set to bring up another on Saturday. The three-year-old had to dig seep with 60.5kg on his back to win at Murray Bridge on May 3, but once hitting the front he showed his class. With Sophie Logan’s claim of 2kg getting him in with 58kg, he looks perfectly placed in this No Metro Wins event. Logan will have him stalking the speed throughout, and if Declared can handle the conditions, he should prove to be a class above his rivals.

Next Best

Race 7 – Silk #1 Declared (4)

3yo Gelding | T: David Jolly | J: Sophie Logan (a2) (60kg)

Best Value at Morphettville: Santelmo Fuego

Grant Young’s Santelmo Fuego has won three of his past six starts, and despite a midfield effort last time out, he presents great value on Saturday. He is a six-time winner on wet ground, including twice on Heavy decks, and he should gain a suck run in transit from barrier two. If he can see clear air at a crucial point and brings his best effort, the $13 with online bookmakers looks a great price.

Race 9 – Silk #5 Santelmo Fuego (2)

7yo Gelding | T: Grant Young | J: Jason Holder (59kg)
