The Parks track at Morphettville is scheduled to host a nine-race card on Saturday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s South Australian racing expert presents his best bets and quaddie selections for the meeting. The track is rated a Soft 5, and the rail will be out 7m from the 1000m to the winning post and 4m for the remainder. Racing is set to commence at 12:12pm ACST (12:42pm AEST).
Morphettville Best Bet: Melody Man
Jake Stephens sends his five-year-old gelding Melody Man to the Parks track following a dominant win on the course proper at Morphettville on August 21. The son of Fiorente was given a gun steer that day by Todd Pannell, who retains the ride as Melody Man pushes to bring up consecutive wins for the first time in his career. This horse hardly knows how to run a poor race, finishing in the top three in seven of his eight career starts, with his only miss coming two starts back at Murray Bridge when beaten under a length to run fourth. From barrier five, we anticipate Pannell will look to lob Melody Man into the one-one again in what looks to be a carbon copy of his last-start win.
Race 5 – Melody Man (#3)Next Best at Morphettville: Turfitt
Having finished midfield in a BM78 on August 21, Turfitt from the Gordon Richards & Damien Moyle yard drops remarkably in grade to a BM60 on Saturday. The four-year-old Turffontein mare peaked on her run with 100m left and simply didn’t handle the rise in class. The drop down the ranks looks ideal, and despite 61kg in the saddle, we expect Jason Holder to have the mare in an ideal position from barrier five. If she can reproduce the turn of foot she showed two starts back, Turfitt will be hard to hold out in the second leg of the quaddie.
Race 7 – Turfitt (#2)Best Value at Morphettville: Wurlies Lastchance
The Lindsay Cadzow-trained Wurlies Lastchance was a $101 winner two starts back at Murray Bridge on August 7, before stepping up remarkably in grade when finishing fifth in the Group 3 Spring Stakes. With rain expected in the lead up to race day, the seven-year-old mare’s chances increase dramatically given she has not run a drum in 13 starts on firmer tracks. From barrier two, she draws to do no work in the running, and with all four of her wins coming at 1200m, we expect Dylan Caboche to steer her to victory this weekend.
