Morphettville Racecourse is the destination for metropolitan racing in South Australia on Saturday with a nine-race program set down for decision. The Listed City Of Marion Stakes (1200m) highlights the action out of the City of Churches, and despite the track being rated a Soft 6, we expect to be racing on an improving surface throughout with a Soft 5 or better on the agenda. We kick off the day of racing at 12:17pm ACDT, with the rail out 12m from the 1200m to the winning post and out 8m for the remainder.
City Of Marion Stakes Top Tip: Ashford Street
Worth $100,000, the Listed City Of Marion Stakes over 1200m has attracted a competitive field of 13 sprinters and we are happy to side with the Ken Elford-trained Ashford Street. The five-year-old gelding has been competitive in tougher races than what he faces in this when chasing home Joyful Fortune and Zoustyle at Flemington two starts back and wasn’t beaten far by the likes of Jigsaw and Midwest at Cranbourne on November 12. He is as honest a sprinter as you could hope and despite wanting a Soft surface, the Moshe gelding looks to have the superior runs on the board. From barrier three, he will be close to the speed throughout and armed with a strong turn of foot, we expect Ashford Street will prove too hard to hold out in the feature event.

The Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained Designs brings a class edge to this BM82 over 2500m, and we expect the five-year-old mare will be the superior stayer on Saturday. She has two wins and a runner-up effort in three starts over the trip and considering she has already tasted success at the track and trip, she looks a clear best bet on Saturday. Jason Holder hops on board from barrier two and from the low draw is all but certain to gain an economical run in transit throughout and on an improving track should only be a benefit. She is rated a $2.80 chance with online bookmakers which looks to be massive overs in a race like this.

Peter Moody sends his three-year-old filly She Dances to the Morphettville 1100m on Saturday afternoon where she looks set to appreciate stepping out of a Group 3 and into a Class 2. The Street Boss filly wasn’t beaten all that far by Aitch Two Oh in the Red Roses Stakes in an effort that suggested she would be better back around a bend. Outside of her debut win as a juvenile, she has been in much tougher company than what she faces this weekend and looks well placed by the Moody team. Jessica Eaton should have her settled in a prominent position throughout from barrier three and with a bit of class on her side, we anticipate She Dances will get us off to a winning start in the opener.

Wayne Francis & Glen Kent will be hoping Aston Rapova can continue where he left off in his first-up victory at the Morphettville 1050m when he steps out over 1100m in the last. The five-year-old gelding relished a hot tempo on that day and sprinted the better to go on and claim success by 1.5 lengths. Look for Madison Lloyd to use barrier two to her advantage and have her mount lobbed on the heels of the leaders throughout. He is one who will appreciate an improving track and armed with a strong turn of foot, we’re happy to side with Aston Rapova in the last at a double-figure quote with online betting sites.
