What Morphettville Races
Where Morphettville Racecourse – 79 Morphett Rd, Morphettville SA 5043
When Saturday, December 31, 2022
First Race 2:02pm ACDT

Metropolitan racing in South Australia returns to Morphettville Racecourse on Saturday afternoon for a nine-race program. With perfect conditions forecast for racing on the weekend and the track coming up a Good 4, it should really negate the fact that the rail comes out 7m from the 1200m to the winning post and out 3m the remainder.

The New Year’s Eve meeting is set to get underway at 2:02pm ACDT and with a bit of luck we can steer you into a few winners to round the year.

Best Bet at Morphettville: Aston Rapova

The Wayne Francis & Glen Kent-trained Aston Rapova has returned a completely different racehorse this time in, winning his first two starts this campaign in impressive fashion. The five-year-old gelding does need to go from BM68 grade into a BM82, but considering he only has four other rivals, the race looks perfectly set up to bring up a third win on the bounce. With the likes of Heka Express, Alleboom and Fighting Mclaren wanting to set a genuine tempo over the 1050m, we expect Jake Toeroek to have Aston Rapova settled at the rear. Armed with a dynamic turn of foot, we anticipate Aston Rapova will be saved for the last shot at the leaders, where he should prove too hard to hold out in the opener.

Best Bet

Race 1 – Silk #4 Aston Rapova (5)

5yo Gelding | T: Wayne Francis & Glen Kent | J: Jake Toeroek (56kg)

Next Best at Morphettville: Hongbao

He was an impressive winner second-up from a spell and the David Jolly-trained Hongbao simply picks himself on Saturday. The four-year-old gelding was forced to travel wide throughout the 1100m Class 2 event at Morphettville on December 16, but once asked for an effort inside the final 300m, the Sooboog gelding put his rivals away with ease to suggest he was worth sticking with. He looks to draw awkwardly from barrier one under Barend Vorster considering he likes to get back and run on, but with Vorster in fine form and in a field that is nothing special, we expect Hongbao to show his class once again and prove too good in this BM68 event over 1100m.

Race 5 – Silk #5 Hongbao (1)

4yo Gelding | T: David Jolly | J: Barend Vorster (57.5kg)

Best Value at Morphettville: My Boy Jett

Having been the best of the beaten brigade behind Seafaring at Murray Bridge on December 24, we believe the quick backup for the John Hyam-trained My Boy Jett will prove beneficial. The three-year-old gelding looked to be peaking on his run late on, but as the leader sprinted clear, the Super One gelding continued to hit the line strongly to suggest he was worth following. He draws barrier one underneath Ellis Wong and with the 3kg claim, will go around with just 55.5kg on his backs, which should suit him perfectly considering he will be close to the speed throughout. He will need luck at a crucial point in the home straight and if that gap comes, the $14 being bet with online bookmakers looks to be well over the odds.

Best Value

Race 4 – Silk #6 My Boy Jett (3)

3yo Gelding | T: John Hyam | J: Ellis Wong (a3) (58.5kg)
