HorseBetting’s Victorian racing analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for the nine-race meeting at Mornington to be held on Thursday afternoon. The track is rated a Soft 6, the rail will be out 8m for the entire circuit, and racing is set to commence at 1pm AEST.
Mornington Best Bet: Frontman
Our best bet on the Mornington card comes up in the third event when the Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained Frontman goes around. In a maiden where half of his rivals are first starters, the three-year-old son of Redoute’s Choice last-start second at Sandown is clearly the strongest form in the race. Having been out bobbed in a driving go against Vilana on August 25, he should only be better for the run as he comes here second-up from a spell. From barrier 11, we anticipate Damian Lane will go forward and settle outside the leader. With a touch of class on his side, Frontman should be simply too good for this field as he looks to break his maiden at start six.
Race 3 – Frontman (#2)Next Best at Mornington: Miss Guggenheim
We were with Miss Guggenheim for her first-up run at Sandown on August 25 when she was running on late over 1300m to finish sixth, beaten 3.5 lengths. The four-year-old Dundeel mare will only get better over further, so the step up to the 1500m here makes her hard to ignore. Having competed in some strong Group races, she should find this BM64 a touch easier than most of her previous runs. She is armed with a nice turn of foot and from barrier four should gain a cosy run in transit. With even luck, Miss Guggenheim should have too much class for this field.
Race 7 – Miss Guggenheim (#11)Mornington Best Value: Hunka Hunka Harry
Daniel Kelly and Alana Kelly are set to combine in the final event of the day when Hunka Hunka Harry looks to make it three wins in succession. Having won his past two on the Ballarat synthetic, he comes to Mornington look to break his maiden on turf. Alana and the six-year-old son of Turffontein boast a very handy 10:2-6-0 record when paired together, and we expect the confidence gained from the recent all-weather wins to hold them in good order as they look to take a sit off the speed and finish over the top.
